In some cases......like my OH, who for want of a better phrase, was a bit of a bad lad as a teenager, there's not a lot of other options.
He spent some time in 'special school' for bad boys. Not something he's proud of but he did some petty stuff that got him in trouble and it was his best chance of a proper job/career. And he did have a great career. It could have been very different.
Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of benefits to it, not least that's it's the best career training you can get.
Yes, there's a chance you could pay the ultimate price. The time spent apart for families Isnt easy either. I can't explain very well how you accept that.......you just do. You know what my OH has been through, but he will sit here and say he wouldn't change his chosen path. And I've never spoken to anyone in his position who's said different.
We had DS1 best friend live with us for a few years, he went into the RAF and it really was positive for him. But I still want to wrap him in bubble wrap when he comes home.springdreams wrote: »Most of the people in my family do not work in these professions, yet they too need a second wage earner in their family units. I agree, it is very hard time for the vast majority of people.100 -

I have a nurse, teachers and a fireman, as well as members of the armed forces in my family, and I don't think any of them are paid enough, all of them need a second wage earner i.e. their spouse to work. I think everyone on here believes in living within means, no matter how difficult it is.

We can agree to disagree on MPs wages. I don't think anyone feels they are being paid enough, and probably never have. If it takes a pay freeze to get the country back in its feet then that's what it takes but it should apply accross the board. From the very top right down to the bottom. Maybe people would feel less aggrieved if that were the case.0 -
Problem is, if we pay all these people what they are worth (not MP's as I dont think they are worth what they get, well not the ones I know personally) we would not be able to live, as the tax to cover it all would be huge, so we would all need a pay rise to cover it. Vicious circle.

Or go the way of Jogn Lewis. The highest paid member is only allowed to be paid x amount times what the lowest person gets. It gives them an incentive to pay the lowest that little bit more that can make a difference.
On that note, I best pop out for a while. Play nice.“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”
