My favourite car was, by quite a margin, the Mazda MX5. The roof went up or down in a few seconds with just one hand, compared to a good half minute on the Volvo. It was fun to drive! No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

I got the speeding ticket I went to court over going uphill in mine. I also ( a long time before mobiles got banned in cars ) once got a call from my dad who was on a motor way behind me, who said ' speedometre not fixed then? '
'Nah, bits its a motor way so I'm alright, ain't I pops'
'No, you are not. I don't think that car should be going at 103'
Humph, I hadn't even got him properly going.0 -
Kitchen lights again! I'm coming round to the idea of just replacing the fluorescent fittings with new fluorescent fittings.
We usually have 5 or so fluorescent tubes working at any one time. They give a total of around 18000 lumens, which is adequate for food preparation even if it is not exactly subtle mood lighting. To get the same light from GU10 LEDs, we will need around 30 of them, which is just not practical.
Could someone check my maths and whether I am being bonkers about this. I'm sure I'm the last person in the country to fit fluorescent fittings! No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I will say I have stayed with small reasonable hatchbacks as they go well when you consider horse power to weight. Yes there is always a faster car but I find more fun with something small nimble.
My current car has a tiny circle compared to last and its much bigger, Its such a delight to turn it.
I'm not really a fan of big cars for the sake of it, but kinda feeling that this might be the nicest car I've had, even though its old, and if might be spoiled for LIFE and always want one.. Its like riding a magic carpet along. I can really see why people get bad attitude driving them tbh, its easy to feel a bit otherworldly.

Your present car is just the thing if you need to tow something large and heavy. The Isle of Wight, for example. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

I'd quite like to own something about the size of the Isle of Wight.
Lost Island has a ring to it, don't you think? I think to tow it we might need a boat, and it might be nicer to stay still? I'm not sure we could move fast enough to make use of mild British summers and then go south for winter and still avoid the bad winds, oceans aren't my area of knowledge. I'd form a cabinet to take care of that sort of thing.0 -
The only car I've had was Cle'mence, my Peugeot 206. Still miss her“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0

Howling gale round my house tonight - or at least it sounds like it anyway. How's the weather where other NP live??Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
The armed forces like to move their people around every six months or so. Apparently, some very very unlucky soldiers did a tour of duty in Europe for six months during the winter, then got sent to the Falklands for six months of their winter, and then back to Europe for another six months of winter. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
