    Question for the scientists :)

Why do spuds weigh less after steaming? I'd have thought they might weigh more as they've got water added, but I took just under 500g of spud and steamed it and weighed it and it was under 400g

    Where did the spud go?

If you steamed them during the eclipse, the gravitational pull of aligned moon and sun could have such an effect.

I don't try to take photos of events - you miss anything that's happening that way.

    Yes and no.

I will say as a photographer/videographer I would generally agree.

ie when I see people at concerts watching the whole thing on a 4 inch screen recording it I think whats the point of going.

Likewise I do see people trying so hard to get the perfect picture of the moment they actually find the whole moment passes them by.

On the professional point of view I do think its nice that people have said to me its great I am recording as I will get better footage and they can enjoy the moment.

I suppose as I have an awareness of such things if its part of my life I am more careful not to view life though a lense.

I'm really really annoyed - and I've nobody but myself to "blame".

My MoT had always been after my tax disc renewal. Handy as renewing the tax disc made me then book the car in for MoT. Well, this year I phoned up and asked when they had a slot and it was yesterday. I said I wasn't sure when the last one was, but it was after the end of March... she muttered about the month thing, I knew about the month thing, and she offered a slot yesterday and I took it ....thinking it'd work out OK ... but this morning I checked my MoT and it said it expires on 19th March ... so I went to the car (expecting to be able to phone them and point out their error) - only to discover last year's had said that to retain my month thing I had to present my car not earlier than 20th.

    Bar-gger. And then some.

I just assumed you got a year and a month if you
did it too early, not that you lost the whole month.

Thats what I thought, if you do it with the last month the anniversary date is preserved.

As others have said it's water in the potato evaporating. If you steam something like broccoli you can see water oozing out of the ends of the stalks (and boiling in the process).
