We don't have Pets, makes it even cheaper

This is very true. And very wise.

But I do love having a cat around, vet's bills notwithstanding, and always feel there's something missing when we haven't got one.

Never owned a dog, but DD1 and DSIL have two (one's a Guide Dog) so there's always a friendly dog available should we feel like making a fuss of one and having a cuddle. When we go round there, both dogs usually try to sit on OH at the same time :D

James is struggling with his EDS and associated problems and has been advised by the uni to come home 10 days earlier than he was supposed to, rest and get healthy.

His condition is getting worse, his heart symptoms are worsening and some depression has now started to kick in, so they think he needs to get back here and see his specialists and come back, hopefully renewed, after Easter.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Once my lot get to 10, then the rule is I don't spend fortunes on prolonging their lives. I've never had pet insurance and touch wood, only had one expensive one in terms of vet fees.

    But no fun!:p

Different ages here. But also different personality types. My dogs have had their first real sunbathing day today. We had the big windows open in the cheese room and they lay on the concrete outside happily. I've pulled them in while the cows come in and to close up before direct sun passes, its still early in the year and gets cool quickly!

Something shocking has happened to our dear chewy. Seriously, I'm a little worried. My thanks looked a bit heavy, I checked and he's found the thanks button? When did that happen? Was in in last years health crises of beloved Np's or is it fatherhood??

Well, I'm of course glad dear chewy, but while you've definitely gone a bit gooey over the pregnancy don't lose all your edge!

Ha ha. I do use it occasionally on the thread but I am afraid that I normally forget! It would be helpful if I could set up an auto thanks function.

Managed to hold the fort last night with the twins downstairs in the living room whilst OH had an uninterrupted 5 hour sleep and then I got 5 hours straight this morning. I feel almost human again and OH has stopped randomly falling asleep in the middle of a sentence.

Lots of people randomly fall asleep in the middle of my sentences, I try and tell myself it is only because I don't use enough full stops in my selection of punctuation symbols but I am afraid there may be more to it than that.

PN may not be a millionare but apparently she is an ILF.
    I think....

Avatar Dog was insured. When he was attacked by another dog and badly bitten, it was a great comfort to be able to listen to what the vet said about his chances (v good with stitches etc) and then tune out when the vet started talking about cost and just say "knock yourself out - he's insured".

Neither the current hamster nor her predecessor have been insured. When this one managed to get hold of one of DD's hair elastics and tangle it round her foot (causing the foot to swell and go purple) I paid the vet's bill myself. It was considerably more than the cost of the hamster, but nothing I couldn't easily afford (a few tens of quid, mostly for anaesthetic etc, IIRC).

Have spoken to several bio & chem teachers at my school today. All v encouraging and offering resources etc for me to use to teach him, and HoDs happy for me to bring him in after hours to do experiments as occasionally necessary. I've been working there nearly 10 years and seem to have built up some goodwill. :) DS has spoken to some people about business studies and remains convinced it's not something he wants to do. No news yet on the history vs phil & eth question. He said he was too busy today to see the necessary people about that. He is giving me a garbled message about some meeting that is happening either tonight or tomorrow about the cancellation of the alternative syllabus history course, but he seems to think his friend's mum (a friend who also wanted to do that history course) knows more about it, so I'll try ringing her.

I have reports again this week. They are mostly due on Thursday at 5pm, which means I'd like to get them done by the end of Wednesday, so I can have Thursday as my day off without having to worry about them.

    Done so far:
    Long reports 5/5
    Short reports 17/68

The short ones were actually due in last week, which is why I've already done them, but if I count all of them together then I feel more encouraged about the numbers. :o

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

So we pay 170 each for two cars fully comp insurance, £40 for contents and £120 for buildings and for breakdown either £37 for full cover (last year) or now £120 for cover via a bank account that includes Europe breakdown as well and mobiles loss theft damage and worldwide travel insurance for the whole family. What sort of prices (in GBP) do you pay?

Edit: 120 for buildings not 20!!!

I hope Gen doesn't take this as the norm!

Our cars are 400, 260 and 900 (though the latter is for the kids).

House insurance is about 450. Breakdown cover is free (a freebie for using the dealer for their annual service). Worldwide travel insurance comes with the bank account that also insures youngest on his travels and 4 iphones for £288/ yr.

My comment lead to some PMs.

    Did I miss something?

Sorry to hear that Sue. On the positive side, at least the Uni are looking out for James.

Pleased to hear that everyone is being so positive about this.

How does your DS feel about fitting in his options this way?

And finally... is it even possible to insure a hamster?!
