They should have built a walking tunnel .... people would've paid to walk across - and in times of breakdown doors could have fed into that, or people could have been invited to walk. Mind you, 3 hours on your bum, or start walking and hear the train fly past when you've only just walked 8 miles .....

Or maybe a Segway hire ... or miniature narrow gauge squat train :)

    Rickshaws.

    No end of opportunities.

There are tunnels like that for maintenance and emergencies. You can't just pay to walk through them, though.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Expected better of you. Plenty of nectar points/ clubcard deals/ orange Wednesdays for cinemas. Even groupon does cinema deals.

I think Orange Wednesdays have just ended :(

When I was in the 6th form, I think they were building the Chunnel. I did a project on it for my French A Level and we went down to Ashford or similar, where there was an exhibition centre. I remember doing drawings and writing about the fire evacuation / maintenance tunnels :)

I also remember that that visit was when we discovered that the dog a) stole food from plates, and b) was very partial to pork pie :D

I was working with a young chap who was over-enthusiastic about Channel Tunnel shares, of which he'd bought a lot. I've wondered ever since how that might've turned out. When I say "a lot" I've no idea how much, but to pick a figure out of the air it might have been £1-2k worth.

I wouldn't know where to begin to look to find out whether any share/s had done well, or not, or even still existed. I'm not from the share-owning classes :)

I think the shareholders and bondholders were written down several times over but in some French style stitch-up were never quite completely wiped out.
    I think....

The company that originally sold the shares nearly went bankrupt in 2006. There was some share swap deal where shareholders lost the perks of free travel each year but got a 1 for 1 share swap in the new company. The share price is not much different to its price in 2006.

The shares originally floated at £3.50 each but dropped down to 57p at one point. Now trading at around 12 Euro ( say £9) but a lot of people sold out along the way. They didn't declare a dividend for 20 years.

Don't invest too much time getting used to it - there isn't one at all any more as I understand it (though I think Vue and one of the other networks has an offer on for a month or so) - last Wednesday was the final one.

There is a very average mega-chain multiplex down the road from me. It would be much better if it showed a better range of films. E.g. I wanted to go and see Birdman but they never showed it, last year I wanted to see Gravity. Neither of which were exactly arthouse. Couldn't be bothered to travel to another town/ city so I guess I'll just wait until they're on tv (freeview, no fancy subscriptions round here) or <£5 in a supermarket. I've been to see a few plays though (National Theatre/ Young Vic recordings).

Apparently we're getting another one too (they're demolishing a monstrous concrete council building and replacing it with a(nother) cinema and a load of chain restaurants. No idea where they think all the people will be flocking from to visit there but nevermind. I'm sure someone much cleverer than I has it all worked out.

I can't remember the last time I bought anything other than a ticket at the cinema. I'm too miserly for that not that keen on popcorn/ watery Coke anyway! I'll usually take a bottle of water. If I'm pushing the boat out I'll bring some sweets/ chocolate/ crisps with me. I've prepped and taken fruit in before too.

I lived on the road behind the Tricycle theatre/ cinema in Kilburn for a year. They was usually something interesting on.

Yep, we've gone from none to one with a second on the way.
Its interesting to me that this place, which includes the poorest area in the county, can support so much fast food and chain restaurant and entertainment stuff. Lots of mobile phone shops too.

That said we also have a water stones, sticks out a bit amoung other local shops there, but, its there! I have to admit.....I spend more at superbook just down the road :o.

Bet Costa/ Starbucks is always full too.

I was really disappointed when it turned out we're getting a load of chain restaurants. We don't need a Bella Italia when there are a huge number of non-chain Italian restaurants. It's nice trying new places (especially if I'm not paying...).

Then I found out one of them is due to be a Wagamama and I softened to the idea somewhat :o
