My GP tells me that the majority of people in the UK are short of vitamin D, at least at this time of year. He reckons that everybody should take a supplement during the winter months.
My brother-in-law swears by it, and he says that he used to get very depressed in the winter until he started taking vitamin D. I will just throw that in, because I am not sure there is any scientific backing at all for his view. However, he may well be short of vitamin D, as he is a member of the ultra-Orthodox community and he walks around very covered up with clothes.
If he owns his own home perhaps he could try more gin. I heard gin has lots of vitamin D. Or is it alcohol? I always get those two things confused.0 -

I think this is true.
However, excess of dietary vit d can also be a problem I understand, especially to those with kidney problems. My kidneys don't seem to be getting worse, but they worsened a lot in the two proceeding years, so that's a concern.
Re sunlight, i have this stupid roacasea and one of the pills increases photo sensitivity. Judging by age spots this has been significant over the winter on my face. I do wear high factor sunscreen, which will be restricting what I make from sun. I won't be getting much dietarily because I get so little dietarily and its absorbed I think in the hind gut, where, not much gets time for me. Again, no about of supplementation will help change that! I do however eat things like eggs and oily fish.0 -

I was diagnosed with vit d deficiency last year and when I started taking supplements it seemed to have a positive impact on how much energy I have.0 -

Congrats Percy. My advice is to stay away from mothercare and if you find yourself wandering into the baby clothes section of a department store then get out whilst your wallet is still intact.0 -
