I agree with viva. I also think that if your supervisor is sticking his neck out for you saying that you're still working on it then you need to make sure that that's true.
But most of all, I feel very strongly that whether or not you finish your thesis should be up to you and your supervisor. If you let the stuff with your ex throw you off balance to the extent that he's the reason you don't finish, then you're letting him have way more influence on your life than he deserves.
I'm not saying to bury yourself in your thesis and have no life at all - I do understand that for the sake of your sanity you need time with people whose company you enjoy and who enjoy yours. But there's a middle way between all thesis and no life, and all life and no thesis.
I am not trying to bully you. If at any point you make an actual decision to chuck the thing, I will never mention it again. But until you do, I will assume that you haven't completely given up hope of the thing, and I will do my best to be encouraging occasionally.

PS I do understand about not being motivated. I have things in my own life that are stuck too. Sending hugs.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

I've got the first three weeks off and my work will probably let me have another week if I need it.- I would prefer 6 weeks but that isn't really going to happen and also her parents have decided to come over here for 6-8 weeks so I figure if we have to put up with them they might as well help out!
We're you in St George's? I have heard terrible things about that place....hopefully Kingston is a bit better. A couple of people we know have had reasonable experiences there and with twins we should get our own room rather than be on a shared ward which will help. Fingers crossed for that.
We were at University College Hospital London just off Tottenham Court Road 'One of the Greatest Hospitals in the World'. It was terrible. Those nurses should have been struck off.
We complained of course but who gives a shut about a baby. NHS nurses are all one step away from canonisation so it was a bit like complaining that Mother Teresa had spilled my coffee.0 -

Kingston for both ours. First time was in a giant ward of the type the victorians built. The ceilings were perfectly visible using the most powerful telescopes. Second time , the new maternity ward was like a human-sized set from Tracy Island of Thunderbirds fame where all the furniture rotated to reveal consoles and equipment.
CCTV cameras watch you going in and out and it was like Fort Knox. Overall, very happy with the place.
Going there next week for non-maternity treatment. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

I have a strange feeling my employer is not taking the "I'm likely to burger off around the world in a large 4wd vehicle shortly" succession planning hints very seriously....“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Yep.
Makes for interesting, if somewhat surreal, conversations though.
It's mildly entertaining watching them go through cognitive dissonance on such a grand scale.
Boss - So about this project....
Me - I won't be here, I've been telling you that for 6 months
Boss - Yeah but seriously though....

I think he's confusing you with the equator which manages to go all around the world without spending any time doing it.:o
Realised that Leonard Nimoy gave up smoking around the time I did, but still died of it. Admittedly he was probably smoking for about three decades more than me at that point, but it still reinforces what a rubbish habit it was.:(There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

I'm so glad I gave up too. It was so depressing seeing people smoking with a drip in their arm outside the cancer ward where I went for my radiotherapy. I have an e-cigarette occasionally when I go to England and once a year when my English mate visits me here. Apart from that I don't even think about it any more. Even last year I used to get the odd craving but since coming back from Europe I haven't thought about smoking at all.
When I see someone smoking it just looks wierd now, like I don't really understand what they are doing. I have to force myself not to stare.:rotfl:
I have made it very clear to the Generalissimos that if they start smoking they will be in a world of pain. $0 will pass from me to them if they smoke and I will know.0 -
So the photo compilation is approved. In the end I used about 30 photos, of which about 10 had other people in the picture. The one at the end, where the video stops, has him on his own. So one or two are slightly out of sequence, but it means GF is included without being the "future" pic.
