Backstroke is great for stretching you out. Unfortunately not always possible in a crowded pool!
However I have never tried to do backstroke in an outdoor pool - might be hard to keep in a straight line with no lines on the ceiling to follow.
Personally, I would recommend getting an instructor first; they should be able to sort out your technique first and get rid of any bad habits. You'll probably only need a few sessions and then you can practise what you've been taught.

I'd probably need sunglass-goggles too as the sun is pretty blinding here.

We can even get those goggles in the UK, so should be easy enough to get in Aus!!

I ache today. Spent two hours yesterday emptying a loft for someone. I was the person the boxes were being passed down to, so had my arms above my head to grab hold of stuff for much of the time.

Today I can barely move but have stuff I need to get on with (not involving lifting boxes thankfully).

Does anyone know if you can double up and take both codeine and ibuprofen?

I'm not very keen on swimming as exercise. Probably because my technique is all wrong. There's a lot of twisting of the spine, that may or may not be good. Also I get out of breath easily, not because it's great cv exercise, but because my breathing is poor - more drowning than exercising.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Neurofen plus contains both, and boots sell their own brand version containing both. Probably best to read the online instruction leaflets, though!

For a start, I'd check that the codeine doesn't already have ibuprofen in it...

Yup, you can buy ibuprofen and codeine from the chemist here. I take it occasionally for my back. You can't take ibuprofen with aspirin or voltarin/diclofenac AFAIK.

Thanks to both of you. The ibuprofen is only Ibuprofen. The Codeine is mixed with paracetamol, not ibuprofen. I'm guessing you can take both, but not sure. Neither say that you can't, but I like to be safe.

I can't take Neurofen as they make them with potato starch... I buy my Ibuprofen in the USA as they are made with different starches there. It's only here we make everything out of potatoes.

ETA: thanks Gen. We cross posted.

I used to swim competitively, but that was very many years ago and I am very unfit now. I do get breathless, and I know that's down to poor technique as well as unfitness, but just have to keep on at it and it will improve.
My pet hate is the 2 ladies swimming next to each other doing heads up breaststroke and talking. No doubt they think they are exercising. It's really doing their backs no good either, swimming with their heads out of the water all the time.
    Maybe I'm a swimming snob.

What about the nurofen liquid capsules (or similar generic ibuprofen liquid capsules from supermarkets etc)? Their ingredients list doesn't seem to have anything to do with potatoes as far as I can see (although it may be called something else that I don't recognise as potato) and it would be more convenient than getting them from the US.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)
