My parents are still as lovey dovey today as on the day they got married almost 55 years ago. Both of them buy cards and presents for each other, both come up with poems for each other (although dad is the master) and they will both kiss and cuddle like teenagers on the day.....well, every day for that matter!
Josh is more coming round to the idea of uni, think Northampton impressed him and he could see what the possibilities could be for him. I've not forced him to apply, he applied on the advice of the staff at school as a just in case but he wasn't the most enthusiastic of applicants, mainly I think due to fear of his disabilities and how he would cope. He's gone from, IF I go to uni, to, WHEN I am at uni in the last few days.
We're off to Cambridge for another interview/audition this coming Wednesday and hopefully, if I can things together in time, for an applicant open day at James' uni next Saturday (he has already been offered a place there)....that day would entail getting up at some ungodly hour of the morning to get to the next big town in time for a 5.50am rail replacement bus!
But at the moment, Northampton has gone from a uni that was making up the numbers, to number one choice. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Well done Josh!
How are you feeling about it all, Sue? Do you think he would cope with living independently? How much support would be available? Would it be the kind of support that he would need?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

A bit scared to be honest! If he can cope, who knows but there is a lot of support available to him and that is one of the reasons I am desperately trying to get to the applicant open day next week at Bucks to discuss what they can do.
We can get around the cooking issue (he is not safe to cook things on his own) and his OCD around washing dirty plates and bowls by thinking differently but he will need support around other personal skills like remembering to wash, change clothes etc...but again, that can be got around with reminder texts or messages.
The hard fact is he is going to have to go into the outside world at some point and learn how to cope (albeit with some outside help), I won't be around forever and he needs to learn these coping strategies sooner rather than later. Sounds tough and eek but being at home with someone constantly there to do the reminders etc, will not improve his independance or ability to cope, no matter how much work has gone into making him more able to cope.
He can be a bit lazy about it as he knows there is the safety net of living in the home, he is an intelligent and talented man and has been taught ways of dealing with his poor memory but while I am here to do it for him (and I am OCD about missing deadlines/targets/appointments), he rather likes the idea of someone to sort everything out for him.
Socially he needs it too, he is becoming far too isolated here and for his aspirations, that just doesn't work. The bullying he has been through over the last few years has not done his confidence good, surprisingly, the bullying has never been about his weight but always about his musical equipment and the cost of it from higher income children or by them hiding certain parts of his kit for fun as they want to see the raging, explosive Josh of old.
He needs to be with like minded individuals, who are all working towards a common end....to play and learn about music. We made it! We've identified a place to eat already (I'm far too OCD not to have plans, studied the roads, where the toilets are etc hehe), which looks ok and is pretty much across the road from the uni. The place you linked PN, looked like it may have been ok but it got some terrible reviews just prior to closing and to be honest, is not my type of food at all but we would probably have given it a try as it was cheap!
There is now a massive shopping centre within a couple of minutes walk of Ruskin, best not tell Josh as he will want to go in there. We made it! Shopping centre is pretty hard to avoid... I did my OU Saturday schools there and always went shopping as it was so close. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I've given up on AirBnB for my forthcoming trip to Berlin. I booked a place, but was turned down for the zaniest reason: " I don't give the room to someone by that name because I hated the character in Game of Thrones so much! "
Next one I tried booking, they wanted a copy of my passport to be uploaded, which rang alarm bells.
So, I've booked a hotel, which is marginally more expensive, but an awful lot less trouble. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

No Internet, no contact, no Saturday schools ... it was a different world where you received your package, opened it, worked through stuff alone and sent it off anonymously and hoped it was OK.
