Thanks for all the feedback.
Forgot to say of course our current bed is a very nice king size chunky pine base varnished in an 'antique' colour, slatted base and some matching underbed coaster type drawers which any NP would be welcome to have. Current mattress is sprung 10 years old and for the last 2 years we have had a 7cm memory foam topper but it is not the best quality and would probably be better thinner as it is not dense enough, Recently we bought a new double for the guest room with 2.5cm memory foam on sprung which is ok and DD2 got one of the rolled up dense memory foam which seems quite firm and comfortable but not sure how that material would stand up to 11.5st of me every night, it is only about 8 inches thick which seems thin for a mattress.
DW and I share a super kingsize bed. That's six feet. We rather regret it and wish we had gone for something a bit smaller. The present bed gives loads of space, so we don't disturb each other whilst sleeping, but we do feel that we are rather a long way apart. Six to twelve inches less would work better, I think. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
On the subject of beds... we have two here. Our main mattress is a Kaymed. Expensive but very good. Guest room, which gets slept in a lot due to shifts, is Myers stature. This was much cheaper. They are both sprung mattresses with a built in memory foam topper. Have had both 5+ years now and they are still going strong with no sagging.
Got the Kaymed from Bedknobs (local chain), while they had a sale on. Got the Myers from a big store, can't remember which, may have been Argos. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Our bed cost an absolute fortune a good few years ago (something that added to our debt) but is still going strong. I got a new mattress protector this week. We have a double bed but have kingsize bedding on top of it so that DH is less likely to nick all the duvet. I don't know what it is called but the bottom is a solid bottom ie not with drawers. I always found in the past that although the storage was useful the beds never seemed as strong.Spend less now, work less later.0

We have separate duvets. One single and one double. That works very well.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

We have a standard double (4' 6") with a king size duvet. Very cosy.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Same here silvercar, a layover from married days to be honest as I certainly don't need to have a kingsize duvet with only me in the bed!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

I've now got a towel on my bed to cover over a spring which has escaped from the mattress, right where I lay too. It will do for now....
Ouch. At least mine only stick out sideways!Doozergirl wrote: »Lydia, you're appearing more flat than usual. I know your challenges but there's usually more of a balance to your posts. I'm a bit worried about you.
Are you still seeing someone for talking therapy?
If there was any way of putting a deadline on the mattress, that would be amazing. 15 years is far too long to have even an apparantly unbroken mattress. Broken springs etc are going to really affect the quality of your sleep and affect daytime you. Perhaps you could copy michaels eventual choice if you could purchase online? It sounds like anything might be better than the present arrangement.
Awww thank you. Yesterday was the first day of half term, and the first half of term had finished with a tricky parents' meeting, so yesterday was a particularly flat day.
I finished with my previous therapist last summer. She wasn't the right match to what I needed. I have found a new one, and had a preliminary meeting, and think she is going to be much better. I have an exercise she has given me to do before seeing her, but I have been putting it off until half term. You can check up on me at the end of the week to make sure I've done it if you like.
I would change the mattress much more quickly if I found it uncomfortable, but it feels fine, and the damage to the base is only right at the foot end, where I don't notice it. I will try to replace it soon, but I won't be choosing one online - I'm fussy about mattresses and would want to try it out in the shop before picking. Maybe once I start with the new therapist I can set that as one of my targets. We have separate duvets. One single and one double. That works very well.
When I was part of a couple we spent the cold parts of the year with a king size duvet over us both and a single duvet on top of it on just my half. He didn't feel the cold as much as I do. Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I made american waffles. Delicious but a bit tedious to make. Won't be doing it again soon!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I think St Valentine may be the patron saint of hangovers....Doozergirl wrote: »I made american waffles. Delicious but a bit tedious to make. Won't be doing it again soon!
Sounds like good hangover food.
Seeing as how you've already made them, if you wouldn't mind just popping a few in the post to me, I'll almost certainly still have this hangover by Tuesday when they'd arrive.:o“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

You probably don't have the same issue with nocturnal visitors that we have. We use 2 single duvets, mine is 4.5, DW is 10.5 all year round. I do put a blanket over my feet when it is very cold so the heating can't be quite as good at keeping a constant temperature as I hoped.
Parents evenings are strange, we often wait for people who take 25 minutes then never seem to manage more than 5 minutes - I'm worried that means we are not paying enough attention to our kids education?I think....0
