I mentioned a few months ago to DH that as I felt returning to old instruments was a bit emotional I might try taking up something else, even just learning guitar chords might be fun. So we took the guitar in to have a little overhaul recently. Today I learnt my fingers have lost their stretch......seriously, how did I used to play anything with these silly short fingers?

I do seem to be able to remember the fingering for three chords, and have been through all the major chords with fir today. I'm just struggling to play them.

I think this is why I struggle with playing the keyboard, non-stretchy fingers. I also discovered yesterday that I no longer have any 'bounce' in my knees. They were playing a tune on the radio which was always used at tap dancing classes, so I started to dance but can no longer 'jump' on one leg. Hey ho.

Another one here who sings the praises studying via OU.

    We're thinking a bout a bath though.

We had a double ended bath once, with the taps in the middle. It was standard size, so a little bit crowded for two adults, but great for bathing two children at a time. Ideal Standard, but I can't remember the model.

    Only £118. Surely a misprice?

We have a bath like that, but slightly wider and the ends are more curvy and slopey. The larger the bath, the longer it takes to fill. TBH it is not that comfortable, really needs to be longer as well as wider.

Friends abroad have a pedalo style double bath, so you both can face the same way. It includes padded pillows at one end and a pop up TV at the other.

I'm still in bed too. And I'm not thinking about moving.

We can face each other or the same way in our bath. The options have different benefits really. I prefer a simple bath that allows flexibility of use. :)

( freshly bathed and back in bed, just about to Internet buy some chair legs and a cabinet)

The Girl outdid herself today. It was a very hot Sydney day, 38C so what else to do than go for a bike ride? 26kms is a hell of a long way for an 8 year old to ride. Well done The Girl. She's cycled further than anyone in her family except me. My record is 200kms.

When I was 10 a friend and I set out with our old fashioned bicycles, some sandwiches, some squash drink and a sketching pad/pencils. Back then the roads were very quiet. The road we ended up on, say, had one car passing every minute or so, doing about 40mph - today it's a major/busy road, with cars nose to tail and doing 60.

We didn't know where we were going, had no plan. It was the summer holidays. We ended up at the roadside sketching an old water tower.

Google tells me it was a 20 mile round trip - but back then we went via all the tiny villages and winding village lanes, so it'd have been a bit more. I'd not do it today, with today's mad traffic.

That was the furthest I went until about 2006, when I decided to take my bike to the end of the road, just to see if it still worked - then the end of the next road, then the next - and I just kept going. No food/drink and it was a right scorcher. By the time I got home I'd done 26 miles. I stopped at a nice pub when I'd had enough and a local farmer brought his two alpacas to the pub and tied them up outside.

When my father was young he set out for a walk from London and ended up in brighton. He called home got told off for costing money, and arrangements were made for him to stay in a hostel then he walked home the next day.

When I was young I was lucky to have lots of liberty too. I was allowed to explore pretty much where ever we lived. I did a sort of a Brighton thing but in the water when I decided I wanted to swim the way round the place we lived on, but I came home at night to sleep. My parents were ok with it but it horrified the locals and expats both. Of course, as a kid I was a lllowed out with a pony too, (strictly speaking I was allowed one way, but not the other....one way ended in woods and lead to bridle paths the other way a main road) . With a friend I was allowed off the tether and we'd head out over the main road, up in to the same woods but further away.

There is a thread in relationships forum about whether a ten year old should be able to use a knife in the kitchen. I thought I'd hold back from mentioning I'd been using a machete for years by then :rotfl:
