BMI is a good indicator - as is the amount of belly overhang you know you've got (even when you breathe in).
I'm at the top of the BMI scale, I wear size 8/10 jeans most of the time. I get heavier the further up I go and am definitely an apple shape, gathering weight in the middle. I can fool myself some of the time... but, I ultimately know, I could do with losing a bit more. On the other hand - I won't as I'm fine as I am and just aware that I'm not the most svelte like I could be.
If you eat too much and/or exercise too little, then 99% of the time you'll be overweight. That's a fact of life. There are few people who are genuinely the size they are PURELY due to medical reasons; most fatties use those people's situation to explain their weight, while we all know they secretly eat too many pies because we've seen what they eat and we know they're eating too much. They just fool themselves into believing what they eat is normal portions and 'healthy'. Adding a side salad to a plate of chips doesn't make it healthy!
I've got two boys who are in the 1%....James eats loads (and I mean loads, way way more than the recommended) and doesn't exercise that much but struggles to keep weight on and is underweight and Josh eats a normal amount (well he did, he now eats even less), drums regularly, plays rugby, is up and down the stairs at school all day every day, walks miles every day, pushes me in the my wheelchair and is very overweight. Even at 1000 calories a day, he is struggling with losing weight but then we know what is wrong with him and why it has the impact on his ability to process fats/calories etc correctly. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

. But lack of fitness is worse. The two do not necessarily go hand in hand.
The recent ad for encouraging women to do physical activity shows not slim women whose bmi is possibly not ideal for a reason, to show that all can exercise and enjoy it and benefit. A chunkier active person is going to be healthier than a lighter not exercising person in many, many cases.
think we need to be more life stylist ( what people eat, what they do) than fattist. But it takes a little more consideration and has fewer one liners that go with it.
I found when I last went to WW, that at the top end of my ideal weight, I was already getting too thin and my body was struggling...not to mention the pain from my joints was horrendous (my pain is worse when skinny rather than when fat as there is no 'padding' to cushion the joints)
At just under the lower weight range (literally 2lbs), I was the equivalent of a size 0 and very very skinny indeed and looked ill.
This time I am not going to a particular weight, just a particular dress size.We made it! . Sometimes I just wander in the bathroom grab the tooth brush wander out and do my teeth while doing other stuff like getting underweR together for the pair of us, or so etimes he does that while I put make up on.
A combined effort at getting ready definitely saves time. ( fir takes ages to get ready though, he has limited sense of urgency)
We are generally pretty free and easy about wandering in and out, but there isn't really the space for me to brush my teeth/hair if DW is in there.
Besides which, I am shy about performing a particular bodily function in company. I feel that it could strain the bonds of affection unnecessarily. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Mrs Generali bought a tray of mangos and a bag of oranges the other day so I made mango and orange sorbet. Nom, nom, nom.
I think someone (LIR/Viva? LIR I think) suggested when I had cancer that I write a family cookbook. What do people think about that? Presumably I could self publish via pdf or something.
I think you could do this well. I saw a new cook book on Indian food at a friends last week.
the recipes were set in amongst a narrative of the authors family life and how food played a part. the family have an Indian restaurnt in Glasgow . One passsage I read described how food and preparing food contributed to improving life for their autistic son. Brain to foggy to google it, but I can ask my friend to tell me what it is.0 -
What is your Sorbet recipe?
I asked DD to buy me a tub of lemon sorbet. I ate it over the course of a week. Then read the ingredients. It started off Ok in large font it said it was made with" Concentrated lemon Juice", then insmall font described everthing else in it.
I felt like I had consumed a tub of industrial solvent.0 -
I have lost another 2lb and now weigh exactly 9st. Still overweight in bMI terms (just) new size 14 leggings hanging off me. Size 14 jeans wriggle down and come off without undoing.
legs thin and look like there is loose skin at o my inner thighs, Arms ( especially left) getting thin.
Oh and the sallow skin looks more yellow.
Still eating a heavily modified/ reduced diet.
/today rice crispies with semi skimmed milk and sweetener.and mint tea.
half a slice of hm bread with about 80g of cottage cheese. A large banana.
In a bid to fire myself up I had a diet coke and an instant coffee withcaffiene and ss milk.
Dinner will be HM leek and potato soup. the others are having chicken casserole with dumplings.
I love dumplings but I am going to resist. yesterday I had a small yorkshire pudding with gravy, mashed swede, mashed roast potato, brussel sprouts./the yorkie pud was a big mistake.0 -
A week I was planning to work about 30 hours has now turned into a VERY hectic week.
Great.........💙💛 💔0 -

I don't know what I would look like at my 'ideal' weight now. I am not big boned but I tend towards sprinter/ fast twitch muscle type. ( this is short and bulky, not long and lean) so when I was too slim I was not too light according to bmi.
Tbh, as I'm not going to strive to ride little ponies its not a huge issue, weight, so much as appearance and health is to me now. If I weighed and extreme amount but somehow looked amazing and were healthy I'd be content. However, that's not possible, so that's why I'm pushing for resolution and experimental surgery to help me challenge my health condition.. Bxgger health benefits. I'm convinced any weight loss possible from a more normal endocrine profile would benefit me significantly more than any medication.

Yorkies are never a mistake
Interestingly, or not, when you look at the calories in a Giant Yorkie, it's about 300 - so I've always figured that getting a Giant one and filling it with veg and a spot of gravy's not too bad. Of course, that'd be without mash and other goodies stuffed in it like sausages. But it'd fill a plate and look/feel like a proper big dinner.0 -
“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”
