Goodness, its so cold today that the dog meat ( taken out this time yesterday) hasn't defrosted properly in its heavy casserole dish. They have had some mango as an appetiser while they waited for me to make it into a tepid and disgusting soup.

Could be handy if someone realised that the freezer door wasn't shut properly so the thing had iced up and was definitely now unable to be shut (or any of the drawers pulled out). Ideal weather to defrost a freezer.

Why do we pay something through the nose?

Researchers combed through the Herald, Evening Post, Western Daily Press, Glasgow Herald, and North Devon Journal.
Experts discovered that "paying through the nose" was a Viking punishment of slitting the nose from tip to eyebrow of anyone who refused to pay tax.

We found mouse droppings in a kitchen cupboard.

    pest control called.

Spent most of the day wiping everything in sight with anti-bacterial wipes. re-washing all the dishes, spraying cupboards, hot washing tea towels.

Somehow it is finding its way to under the cupboards, behind the kick boards. There is one pipe that is visible on the outside that seems to go nowhere, but shining a torch from the outside, doesn't shed any light. Solid floors and solid walls, so its a bit of a mystery.

No vents anywhere? They can get through tiny, tiny gaps.

While its great and necessary you cleaned out everything please make sure you clean everything you use as you use it. You won't necessarily know whether its been back ;).

My flours etc are all in Tupperware in a cupboard on the left of my cooker, and my teatowels have been moved out of the kitchen. For some reason mice don't care if I have them in the utility room, but they do if I have them in the kitchen.

I could probably rectify all that now though. Having a back door is amazing :D

We've tried them. They don't work here. Our neighbours swear buy them too. Their reliance on them and refusal to accept they weren't working lead to the rat epidemic in the farm buildings that we had.

    They have them EVERYWHERE.

We still have them on in the feed room, and cycle the settings, but mice still potter through the feed room. :)

On the plus side, they don't bother the bats either.

Sorry to hear you have furry visitors, sc. Hope they gone asap.

Second slow cooker meal today - a lazy chilli beef thing. The meat isn't exactly dry, but not quite as tender as I'd imagined. Oh well. Still tastes pretty good. The tiny chillies I found in the freezer definitely pack a punch though!
