One article online says in six months:

"encourages a rapid, dramatic and transformative one-time organising event completed methodically and lovingly in no more than six months."

So do it in six months, not as an ongoing lifestyle forever, without end.

Oh I see, thank you PN and lir. I hadn't got into the book yet ;) I thought it meant you had to sort of do one room a day for a week, or something!

ETA Sue, thank you too, that's really encouraging to read (about you doing it over about 6 months). Perhaps there's hope for our house yet!

I'm afraid I'm much too bolshy to do what some randomer tells me when she's the only one making money out of it.

This really resonated with me....years ago I started going to Weightwatchers, and lost 12lb, then started thinking "Who is this person to tell me I mustn't eat sweets?" and never went again :o:D

Trouble is, I can't decide what size I am

What I need to do is go out and buy 6 more multipacks and bin a lot of what I've got. .

On the first type of undergarment, I saw this link on another thread.

I think I need to adopt the same strategy with the second type of undergarment too :o

Hmm, irrespective of tidying approach, I know that I wouldn't stick to it and it would need repeating.

I love putting IKEA stuff together :D

NP Shoppers i need to buy an armchair for me. I need something that I can get in and out of with ease. Think old people.
    Specifically short old people.
I have looked at JL and Multi york and there is nothing that looks suitable. Nothing bespoke or costing a fortune as I hope i will only need it for this year. Recommendations?/Suggestions?

Ebay. Consider arm chairs made for those with mobility needs . Not sure what they are called.

People must sell them after their parents, um, no longer need them :o:D

Have it steam cleaned when you get it home.

Or gumtree, freecycle (place a wanted ad)
Fireside chairs are quite good for getting out of easily, or you may want a "low rise" chair.
HSL - who advertise on the back pages of magazines for the mature lady, and also in Saturday newspapers.
  • Spirit, have you looked at these?

Just watched DD run straight out in front of a car without looking. Thank God the driver saw her first. _pale_

Oh Doozergirl! Sooooo glad she's safe.

lir, i bought the Kindle version of her book yesterday and I notice she says that it (discarding/reorganising) needs to be done all at once, as it were, and that doing tidying a bit at a time won't work.

This has put me off immediately, since there are an awful lot of us who physically just won't be able to get it all done in one fell swoop.

Not to mention the thing you mentioned on the Kondo thread, that those of us who don't live alone can't go discarding and reorganising other family members' stuff unless they are happy for us to do so :( Mr ivyleaf, for instance, has loads of extraneous "stuff" and gets very stressed and ratty if he feels I'm trying to organise him.

Thank you for putting my thoughts into words so succinctly, ivyleaf. :)
Here is an example of how she "helped" a client:

    Before: http://static01.nyt.com/images/2014/10/23/garden/23TIDY3/23JPTIDY3-blog427.jpg

    After: http://static01.nyt.com/images/2014/10/23/garden/23TIDY3/23JPTIDY3-blog427.jpg

Now tell me where that client's supposed to use their PC or do any paperwork?

Maybe the client no longer has a PC or any paperwork because she has "organised" it all into a skip!!
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)
