Gotta be honest fir, I have my doubts.
Like any good (well mediocre actually) social scientist I've studied a fair bit of statistics and there are some massive confounding factors in drink studies, by far the largest of which is that a big group of non-drinkers will be non-drinkers because they are problem drinkers or have other problems with addiction.
Unfortunately there is no way to test for that directly and if you ask someone that abstemes whether they are an alcoholic you are highly likely to hear the answer 'No!' regardless of the truth.
We all love stories like this which is why the papers print them. Are they accurate? Probably not.
Disclaimer: I can't drink on my current meds to get the arthritis under control and am quite grumpy.0 -
I know, I know, it's obviously sheer baloney, but somehow 'refreshing' to have a scientist say it's ok to drink lots. I think a bottle a day is a huge amount!0

Supposedly Doctors drink and smoke well above the national average. I've always wondered if they actually do or if they are just more honest with researchers.0 -
