Happens to my wife and most teachers i know, now they are all on berocca and that's helped a lot, bad cold's have become mild lasting a few days rather than a week or more.

Fir takes berroca. And a whole host of other stuff. He is a supplement junkie. Almost every day he has a green smoothie made of powdered seaweeds and all kinds of other gunk. Yuck. And pollen. He loves pollen.

( I thought teachers got colds because of all those germs children and the number of holiday destinations and virus they were vicariously exposed to via those germs little beasts)

Oh for sure at the start of the year she had something or other almost every other week, we even tracked it on the calendar. Both my wife and mum always got sick at the start of holidays almost without fail, incredibly frustrating.

I think most people get sick when they have a holiday booked - I read somewhere that it's the body's ability to keep going until it's possible to stop.... and the body knows when you've booked a day or a week off and nails that as grotty week.

It's always been a bummer really.

Your tax allowance is not prorated so you may not have to pay much tax before April :T

I won't have to pay any :money: Apart from National Insurance.

    April onwards

I'd talked myself out of moving to London this afternoon, but now I'm back on it... Am I allowed to say 'yolo' on this thread?

Echinacea is what I take on the first sniffle.

On the subject of colds... I deal with the public every day. My strategy for avoidance includes judicious use of alcohol wipes on surfaces and drinking high juice blackcurrant (which tablet wants to change to the more interesting high juice recalcitrant).

We're at St Pancras about to get on the Eurostar to Paris. Sorry we couldn't get together this time, maybe next.

Hope your journey back has been uneventful. Would be lovely to meet up with you next time you're over here.

Yes, we do get exposed to lots of germs. But there's also the thing about not succumbing to them until you get to the end of term. PN is right - humans have enhanced immunity with added adrenaline or cortisol or other stress hormones or something (bit vague on the details - sorry) but if your life keeps you running on stress hormones for weeks or months, then the drop when you finally relax means that your immunity goes down and you immediately get ill.

In other news, DD has finally given in to my nagging and cleaned out the hamster cage ... and lost one of the clips that holds it together. The hamster's stay in its travel box is having to be prolonged until I can get a replacement clip to make the cage secure. :(

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Tie grips? Paperclips? Garden twine knotted? Twisty keyring?

Not easy to see how this can be done. The end of the cage doesn't have anything that a wire or piece of twine could be threaded through - just a slot that the clip fits into. And it has to be held absolutely tightly or she will be able to make a gap lower down and wriggle through.

    Cage is this type:

The missing clip is one of the ones at the top on the end. (She has added tubes etc to make it more interesting - both for the hamster and for DD!)

Hopefully, you can get spare parts. The Rotastak website gives a contact number. Otherwise, you could perhaps drill a small hole to enable something to be threaded through.

This would make a really good job of it - http://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Threaded-Rod-M6x500mm-Pack-2/p/511121

Drill a hole in each end plate, cut threaded rod to length required, and a couple of nuts and washers.....
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
