Got one. Reserved on Saturday, collected today. Good to know that Argos have changed their policy, if you reserve an item and the price goes up, they now honour the price at reservation if you collect in the correct timescale.

We're at St Pancras about to get on the Eurostar to Paris. Sorry we couldn't get together this time, maybe next.

    Have a safe trip back!

Just been to the job centre. It's ridiculous really when I have a job. But anyway the IT system was playing up (Universal Credit), so when she asked me if I was looking for jobs and I replied that I was she said she'd take my word for it! Not complaining . I did the sums and after three months of working I'll have paid back everything I've had in benefits, so I don't feel bad.

Typical one step forward, one step sideways/back for me again. I finally got round to buying a rotary washing line. I've got a (deep) hole in my garden where the last person put one. How hard could it be?

So I bought one. It said it comes with the ground insert too - good to go then, eh?

No. Just unpacked it and there are some strange unpacking/setting up instructions to fathom out - and the (smallish) plastic insert that goes into the ground needs to be set into concrete. Instructions say to dig a hole, fill it with concrete, push the insert in, wait 24 hours. Not what I had in mind at all!.

Now wondering what the next step/s I should take should be. I am thinking that a metal spike might fit into the hole in the ground and then the supplied insert would actually become superfluous.

Why is everything "simple" so hard?

I'll put the insert into my bag and see if I can find a spike while I'm out sometime to try for size.

Edit: Just looked at the hole, it's 2' deep. I'll just forget that exists and get myself a metal ground spike that needs bashing in ... once I can find one that I'm sure I can bash in (not got any basher equipment). So maybe I'll need to also buy a mallet.... it just goes on and on and on doesn't it. You buy one thing, then need to go out and find/buy more things to complete any small taskette you thought you started with. It's either that or work out where to buy two Pringle tubes worth of concrete from :)

Yes. We could fly premium economy from Abu Dhabi to Aus by flying via Paris. We're staying a couple of nights in Paris and then on to Aus.
So another np with altered travel plans cos flying direct from the uk is so much more expensive.

Your tax allowance is not prorated so you may not have to pay much tax before April :T

Still feeling carp. What are NPs feelings on the European directive that if you are sick whilst on holiday it counts as a day of sick not a day of leave?

Also I have what has all the classic signs of a virus; temperature, headache and cough developing after 2 days, in the uk I certainly wouldn't visit the gp...but I might call 111 and mention close contact with someone with pneumonia to see if that made a difference.....

It is a legal right, from the genuinely sick employee who has a non restful fortnight on holiday due to illness I think it helpful for well being reasons. For the odd off day during a holiday I think it is taking the mickey and whilst legal may may not be treated sympathetically by an employer.

Hopefully no NP are affected by this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-30685507

I seem to remember they were mentioned some time ago :(

no, we are OK ...not supplied for about 18 months I think.

The rumour mill has been about for 6 months though, esp since Hilco took over in Nov so anyone with a large ££ outstanding knew it was going down so minimised their losses I believe.

Happy NY to all on the board (sooooo belated sorry :)) I missed all the NY threads and stuff :(.

But its "well known" that in some sort of jobs people get sick on their time off....just from the stress relief. Happens to fir, he had a stinker of a cold for the last week or so. If he and his colleagues were to claim sick leave for that sort of thing they'd need.....more sick leave!

There is a phrase for that kind of thing, when you get sick on holiday from desk bound / long hour jobs.

michaels, how rubbish to get ill on holiday :( Any chance of seeing a doctor? I hope DD is continuing to improve.

PN so sorry your rotary line has turned out not to be the quick fix it sounded as if it ought to be!

Spirit I expect Ben is beautifully fragrant now :)

Happens to my wife and most teachers i know, now they are all on berocca and that's helped a lot, bad cold's have become mild lasting a few days rather than a week or more.
