Happy New Year to one and all.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0

Some places are known as "favourite" spots for those wanting to end it all, possibly due to the speed of the through trains.PasturesNew wrote: »That happens a lot more than you'd think. My sibling used to travel by train to visit the parents during the recent years' troubles - and, due to the location/speed of train I'd collect her from about 20 miles away as it was quicker. There were many times when somebody'd decided to end it all on the line, probably 1/3rd of the journeys made were held up by this.
Wimbledon station is one of the favourites.
Happy New Year to all. We had friends round for a meal and a drink to celebrate the New Year. It is now established that you can (reasonably) comfortably sit 10 round our dining table.
In other news, SIL's BIL had his kidney transplant last Sunday and is doing really well. May be home Monday.0 -
We had drunken arguments spilling out onto the road from the party at the house opposite around 1am-ish. DS was a bit alarmed, but I have to admit I felt rather pleased that for once the person letting the side down on our ever so well behaved street wasn't me. (I'm the one with the jungle for a garden.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Every cloud has a silver lining! I feel the same. After our old neighbours gossiping about us and convincing everyone that we're the neighbours from hell, we really aren't. New next door neighbours aren't either but wow, they like a party.
I've tried to get up. I managed a shower, but have only got one leg into my tights (which I suspect may actually be DDs) and collapsed back on the bed. The spirit is willing, at least.
I do have work to do

It was surprisingly quiet round here compared to previous years. Was pleasantly surprised after expecting the worst. Woman in supermarket yesterday told me that I was the first person through her till in two hours that hadn't bought booze. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Happy New Year! May all your dreams come true!
We had a lovely NYE until midnight struck.
Went to the theatre for a matinee with a group of friends, managed to get out of London before the roads were congested, collected takeaway for the group and we all over eat a lovely 4 course chinese. Switched on the TV for midnight countdown. All very jolly.
Then one of the group's mobile rang. Call from her 18 yr old's phone. Paramedic on the line, on their way to A & E in ambulance. Kid has had major health issues, but we think this was just too much drink and not having eaten sufficient first. They bootled off to the hospital and got their ages before the ambulance that was in an ambulance queue! Think he is OK and home by now. We had loads of people letting off fireworks around here this year, much more so than in previous years, quite pretty to watch though and everyone seemed fairly well behaved.
Slept most of the morning in a nice lie-in, and surprisingly hangover-free today so not a bad result.

Just a quick post to say Galaxy Quest just started on BBC2, which I think is one of the great SF films and very funny. If you're looking for something to watch give it a whirl!
PS I love the catch phrase - Never give up, Never surrender! - makes sense to me!0 -
