Do they all go slippery? Any one know? Then there is the question of the cats seeing it as one long cat scratcher of course.
I've seen some ok plain runners with contrast bindings.
Can I vote for uncarpeted, varnished stairs, please? It needs to be a non-slip varnish for safety reasons, and never polished. It depends on the state of the wood, but some nail holes from old carpet runners add character. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Tonight, we are having Tesco Finest Cranberry and Chestnut loaf, with mulled wine sauce, which we have never had before. Plus freshly made red cabbage, which is my favourite vegetable, and which DW has slaved over. Having carrot batons now. Nom Nom!
And now I am going to do something silly. We bought a throw-away pepper grinder with pepper corns already in it. I am going to try refilling it.
Edit: The grinder came apart easily enough. The top is just a push fit. So, it just needs refilling now.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

You can.
That's what the back stairs are remaining.
The front stairs have had no carpet on them for about a year. We are thinking runner because RP stomps up them loudly and dog dog seems to find them difficult. Otherwise we would probably leave them plain. IMO its preferable aesthetically here, less cluttered to the eye and er.......cheaper.

( I made the loaf before Christmas and shoved it in the freezer for an easy cook day)

Doglet finds our varnished stairs a touch difficult - think of Walt Disney cartoons, where Pluto's legs are working but he's staying in the same spot! Or Michael Jackson doing a moonwalk. The more Doglet slips, the more she extends her claws, but of course claws don't work at all well on varnished wood. I'm afraid that I find it hilarious, which is rather Not Nice of me. To be fair, she's got much better at them, and she can beat me up to the top floor, particularly as the second flight is carpeted. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

DW is upset, so I have altered your post.
She says that I should have said crudit!s rather than carrot batons, but the fact remains that we just have the one staircase. My brother's house in Manchester has a second staircase, plus what he refers to as the Back Passage. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
:rotfl:to GDB's doglet mental image! Sounds like our former dog on the kitchen floor tiles when he was trying to rush somewhere else in the house too fast ... legs going everywhere except forward :rotfl:
Hope you feel better soon Doozergirl. There seem to be so many horrid respiratory / chest bugs around this year
Tea tonight will be the final helping of the Delia cottage pie made from the roast beef leftovers, together with reheated gravy from the roast. Yum yum indeed.
I've been snacking on chocolates all day, as well as having a smoked salmon sandwich at lunchtime to use up s/s from Christmas too (duly ignoring the 'eat within 2 days' message ...
)
It's studying all week for me, except for meeting some old friends on Thursday and panto on Saturday matinee :T0 -
Would a runner with rods be period? Alternatively how about something with non-pile perhaps a sand colour glued onto the tread of each step leaving the edges and risers as wood?
Pneumonia is not recommended either but touch would doesn't seem to be too contagious, then again we may have to stay in Africa if the Ebola outbreak in blighty gets out of hand.

I rather like her:)Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.
