To be fair, going against the traffic is nothing like as bad as going with it.

I spent almost a decade living in London suburbs and commuting out to Surrey and found that not too bad when driving by car.

Many a time I'd be seeing inbound drivers sitting miserably in traffic jams and that looked bad enough. What was even more disconcerting was sometimes seeing the other lane's traffic jam growing faster than I was driving. There was only one set of traffic lights on my route. When I had to drive into inner London from my last job, that was utterly tedious, especially when they extended the congestion charge zone around my workplace totally unnecessarily. My main memory from that job was sitting waiting for traffic lights to change.

I've got a reasonable journey now and I'm really really very happy with that.

I think it's on the M4 or M40 that someone wrote on a wall, just at the point where the traffic starts getting bad in the mornings, "Why do we do this to ourselves every day?".

My motorway, M40. I know exactly where. It was huge. It's been gradually graffitied over by other, not as good, stuff.

The five of us slept in.

Warm last night? It was boiling.....but I had no room to move because I was hemmed in my other people. Lovely.

When I woke up I said 'morning darlings' and kiwi sat up, leant back and started living my face and neck. No one seemed in a hurry so we just stayed in bed a while.

They are both having a very vocal tantrum not to be in main body of the house now though, ( they have wet feet from out side). Give an inch eh?

    My two least favourite people.

Mine too, glad I don't have a TV some days, though I was out anyway last night. Someone kindly gave me a lift, which leads to this mornings reflection that I either need to practice drinking or slow down when I do go out......

lir, she had a lovely life with you, it was the right time before she started struggling more.

It's still a tough decision though, even when it's right:(

Big dog, Ninnananna, has gone. It was exceptionally quiet.

After her normal breakfast I knew I wouldn't want her to have supper but did want her to have a lovely last meal so she had lunch instead, she had fried eggs and bacon, American pancakes, and hot chocolate ( well, warm chocolate).

Glad she enjoyed it. Avatar Dog's last meal was a whole pound of minced beef (cooked). He loved it.

Five? Is this you, Dog Dog, Kiwi, fir and a cat, or you, Dog Dog, Kiwi and 2 cats? I think fir is not usually there on a Thursday night, but you said he was put out about it.

Glad all 5 of you had such a lovely sleep and waking up, anyway. Do the other dogs seem puzzled about Big Dog's absence?

    Sending hugs.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Fir is not here, if he were we'd have stuck out longer at putting kiwi on the flokati. I think the crate might come up to the bedroom tonight. He sleeps in his crate ( with the door open) down stairs.....so I think it will be easier for him to understand upstairs. :)

So the cats, the dogs and me.

The other dogs do not seem puzzled or upset yet at all. ( apart from the tantrum)

We won a goldfish at the fair when the kids were smaller. It came in a little plastic bag with some water in it. Of course, the bag got dropped on the pavement and burst open on the way home. What's interesting is what happened next. We had nothing to put the fish in, so we went home and got a bowl full of water. That must have taken 20 minutes at least, if not half an hour. Amazingly, the fish was still alive. So, we called him Lucky, and he lived for another year or two on the kitchen window sill. How can a fish survive that long in the sort of shallow puddle you get on a paving stone? Can they breathe air?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I agree if you are driving. If you are on public transport, there is less inclination for the powers that [STRIKE]screwed things up in the first place[/STRIKE] be to put on extra trains/ make fast trains stop/ add bus services. Its a pain when you are standing on a cold platform with 200 other people in similar circumstances, its just a much of a pain when you are alone on a platform and left to your own devices.

Though if things are working smoothly, then less fellow travellers makes a more comfortable journey.

Mine never really seem to register when one is no longer there. I think Ruby might miss Stella when she goes, they are half-sisters and often sleep cuddled up together.

GDB, it's not unusual to hear of goldfish surviving out of water. from the oracle that is the Daily Mail:

If their gills are wet they can pass oxygen across the membrane of their gills into their bloodstream. 'If the fish isn't exerting itself, it won't need as much oxygen.
'Some types of fish can cope out of water for quite long periods. Goldfish are pretty resilient.'
