After her normal breakfast I knew I wouldn't want her to have supper but did want her to have a lovely last meal so she had lunch instead, she had fried eggs and bacon, American pancakes, and hot chocolate ( well, warm chocolate).
sad but pleased for her and you that you managed a kind and peaceful end. hugs to you and fir0 -

I hate commuting now but didn't mind it so much when I was younger and my life was outside the house rather than in it.
My offer of local lodgings while you get your bearings stands.
It's much appreciated. I'll certainly bear it in mind but I've had a few offers, which is nice
We'll definitely have to meet for a pint once I'm down.
Lir, sorry to hear about the dog
I missed it with all my going on about commutes. “I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -

Mas that's ok
. Where you are going to live is the future and a more immediate concern.
I just am preempt ing anyone asking how the dogs are really .0 -
Just popping up for a short while (near the edge of my monthly broadband limit until Sunday!).
{{ hugs }} LIR. I hope you find comfort sharing with the other dogs tonight.
Congratulations, Mas. Hurrah and such good news. :T
I don't know which part of Inner Herts you'll be in, but I originally come from the bottom right corner just off the A10 and on the Liverpool Street line, so if you've any questions about that area do shout.
Toast, well it's got to have melted butter rather than cold butter I think. Otherwise it's too dry. I watched Masterchef The Professionals yesterday evening with a glorious meal of baked beans on marmite toast. Lovely
In other news, one of my current assessments is to develop a short PowerPoint presentation using lots of visuals and graphics rather than notes on the page (the details go in the wordy section underneath). Oh my. I have discovered Smart Art. There is no holding me back :rotfl::D
I'm having to develop a training module on a very dull topic at work, and am putting this into practice BIG-style. The delegates are not going to know what's hit them :A0 -
Sorry LiR.
Mas. My advice for a commute is get a direct line, even if it means a walk at the other end. It is far, far more reliable. Even better if you can have alternatives.
Don't ignore the bus as a way to get around. They are full of the hoi polloi but they are generally very reliable.0 -

Mas is young. He has friends in Town ( well, sort of, ....lir gives a snobby sniff;)) and deciding to rent in Town for say, a year, while he decides whether to stay doing the commute or move closer to work, doesn't seem a bad idea to me.
What I would say though is that you don't necessarily need to live that close to your chums if you have paid for the oyster anyway, and you live in an area suitable for getting to there or somewhere more central to meet them.....you'll me making lots of new friends......its not a bad thing to move your comfort zone a bit.
I would pick the area that makes your WORK commute simple. Your partying commute requires less motivation with a sore head early on a grey, wet morning.
Now, its not often you'll get me recommending something not tight. But there you go. Live a little.
My 2p is that when I ended up living in kent and all my friends were in clapham I hated always being the one who had to leave to get he last train when things were just getting fun. These days I couldn't care less as I don't want to stay out past 10pm, ever, and in a few months that will probably be more like 7. Mind you my commute is getting longer as I get older!
I would personally start living in the "fun zone" and then think about moving somewhere easier for the commute if it turned out to be awful. Even if it is long, if you always get a seat it gives you an opportunity to read. Or sleep!
That said, the Overground is of dubious reliability. I'd want an alternative commuting route if things went wrong - would never want to be 100% reliant on that, especially if the connecting train only comes a couple of times an hour. If you can it is always worth trying the commute during rush hour.0 -
If Mas is going to work in the town where I live, I would suggest the next big town down the trainline. That way...
1. You have a direct train link
2. There's a bus back up
3. Choice of overland or tube for trips to London and meet ups there from the town itself
4. Within a few miles drive, access to the end of a further couple of tube lines which give even more options
5. Fast coaches into London as a fall back.
6. Easy access to trains back home
7. Easy access to road access to back home. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
