Yesterday was a simply lovely day. LIR and FIR are wonderful, seemingly-relaxed hosts, who went to enormous trouble to accommodate their guests' foibles food-wise. It was great seeing them and Lydia again.
Lydia's children are amazing. So interesting and well behaved!
LIR has a dog with the same hairstyle as Rod Stewart, but easy to tell apart, as the dog sings much better. Dog Dog is much bigger than I expected. I forgot that I needed to ignore Kiwi, but did in fact ignore him, which had the desired effect of him wanting to be stroked by me.
The house is so warm and friendly.
I am so glad.
I don't consider religious and ethical eating ( which covered most of it) a foible, ( and did no more for those than would do for family and expect family to do for me on those points, and let's face it, I talk to you guys more than family! I wanted to reassure Lady GDb that I had prepared all my cooking utensils how my aunt in law ( the one whose husband is a rabbi) had taught me, and the reason the pecans got over ground in the pestle and mortar was because I was hand grinding because I could wash that properly , unlike the kitchen aid. But I don't think I got a chance to. ) and had bought and extra cucumber in advance.
I often ( but by no means always) choose vegetarian or vegan options when out for ethical reasons, and I don't consider that a foible either. Though it is, other wise I'd do it every time I went out and always choose vegan,0 -

We're really pressed this week, and that's not helping matters.
I sympathise. I have the T shirt etc, as I really put on weight when I was working long hours. Like Bugslet. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I used to put on weight working long hours too, especially on nights. You just end up snacking, and unhealthily.
Seems I will now hear about the job tomorrow (date pushed back a third time). Was prepared for it this time though. Apparently the manager still needs to speak to the internal resourcing team before they can confirm anything.
Fingers crossed.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -

I very much hope it goes through. Got my toes crossed. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Bugs let, have you ever had avocado and peanut butter together on toast?
Fwiw another popular one in my family was peanut butter and marmite.0 -
Here has started one of the best weeks in[STRIKE]rod Stewarts [/STRIKE] bg dog's life. She has had onions in left offers as I was clearing out a fridge shelf, ( onions are not dog safe ) and was allowed to eat left over cake from yesterday in her breakfast. Every meal from now on she will get all non dog safe leftovers along with her share of dog safe LO . On Thursday morning she will for the first time in her life taste chocolate, probably a kitkat.0

Mas - was thinking of you on the way into work this morning. Once you've been in post a few weeks all this messing around will be forgotten (fingers crossed)
lir - what a treat for big dog
Have I missed something though? Has something changed or 'just' the inevitable?
PN - sorry to hear your news. Not really sure what to say but I'm sending you love and best wishes.0 -
Thanks everyone
Your support does mean a lot to me.

Just the inevitable. We'd decided anyway. Behaviour at weekend confirmed. Also, the cold snap will be a pretty uncomfortable period.
My hope had always been to get her to autumn so she could pick apples and blackberries. Picking fruit is her favourite thing, blackberries favourite fruit of all. While apples she could just jump for she could not make the pull back move ment to pick blackberries herself and I decided then however hard it was I didn't want her to face that again.
She's not a cuddley lap dog *like the other two, she's a kennel dog who lives in a house. While she's happy about that she's never made the full mental transition. So that's point 1.
Point 2 is that if I wait for the big thing it will both hurt her a lot and be practically difficult. Unlike the other two, I cannot lift her, and certainly have no hope of lifting her keeping her spine straight. While that might not be the end of the world ( my vets would come here) just getting her in to a comfortable position while waiting for them could be very hard. I don't want her to have an agonised end.
The main thing that excites her now is supper. She's simply not very social, not wanting to go for walks, and quite often is showing body language of pain or distress. So even though it might not be 'desperate' I feel for HER its the right time. Even though for us it never, ever would be.
* actually! she does try and sit in my lap, but hasn't tried for a few weeks.
