I agree. I think of myself as somebody who likes sweet things (chocolate, biscuits, cakes, puddings, etc) but doesn't like them to be too sweet. There's a flapjack that people at work like a lot that I find far too sickly and never eat.

My current problem is finding an appropriate grab-and-go breakfast. I know skipping breakfast is a bad idea. I am also realistic about the minuscule probability of getting myself up in the morning, and DD as well, in time for us to eat breakfast properly before leaving the house. We have tried those "breakfast biscuits" that are supposed to give you the same content as porridge, but without the bowl and spoon experience, we can eat them on the short drive to her school. I've yet to find a brand that's not far far too sweet IMO - either taste-wise or in terms of the kind of nutritional content I think is suitable for a breakfast that I'm only eating because I think I ought to - I don't feel hungry until later in the morning.

Nature s brilliant. Hard boiled eggs ( while you are cooking supper, do a couple of days worth. Vegetarian for ds too. :) ) and an apple. Protein for sustenance, and one of your five a day. Banan if its too cold for an apple, cucumber for dd is a great variety, celery, carrots. Fruit / veg that needs no / minimum prep obviously the way to go ( not kiwis, or melon for example.

I also find a packet of crackers, very plain or oatcakes, a handbag life saver. For those days when I really have got sugar levels / hunger wrong.

    Yes very much so.

I'm also finding it increasingly difficult to hide.

Which is a bit of a problem... :o

Doesn't this risk just becoming a different type of idiot?

I've been thinking of a business model/plan in the last two weeks and, bizarrely, got into a conversation with one of the Xmas Market shed-holders last night who is following that exact business model VERY successfully.

It was a fudge stall. Nothing different about that you might think .... except this guy doesn't run a business. He doesn't sell online. He just makes fudge and stockpiles it, then goes out to do the run up to Xmas and sells out every year. He said he's already done 3 tonnes of it this year alone!

The model/plan is to create a product throughout the year, just to target and hit 2-3 high profile, high footfall locations at a peak time. And that's what he's done. Although that might just be how he disposes of his leftovers during Jan/Feb.

Now doing a little googling, I wonder if he's adjusted the truth a little as he might be running a regular sweeties business the rest of the time and he has an ebay shop. He's also, in past years, said on Facebook that his fudge is available at a variety of posh outlets ... so maybe he's either expanding, or contracting, the business... been bumbling along and around for a few years never quite becoming a fudgie millionaire.

Oh bough bags of kindling at te local Ag merchants this week, the guy in there was telling him about the supplier. he makes kindling all through the year and every time he gets to 50 bags the ag merchant buys it off him and stockpiles it for winter. If he only bought it in the winter time the suppliers cash flow and income ( elderly chap with an axe)would fail and he would stop.the chap has a few other lines of work such as making bessom brooms.

Yesterday I was very grateful to be a law unto myself - no OH, no kids, no appointments.

I've always thought I'd be good at hibernating - yesterday has done nothing to convince me otherwise.

Have you asked DD to help re-clean the kitchen? Hope Doozer is back asap. I'm sure you'll all have the house looking lovely by the time the viewers arrive.

yesterday I got up at 8.30...then went back to bed at noon and slept until 3pm . I went to bed at 8pm and got up at 10.30 today.I am planning on hoovering the sitting room. then i will be tired and may have a little sleep.

Glad you had fun Viva! I watched some of it on TV (well, Pixie).

PN, a mate of mine does Christmas markets. He does well out of it; but he does sell stuff on ebay through the rest of the year. One of the chaps he works with just does three months of the year's work and earns enough to live in Thailand for the other nine months. He says it's very hard work for the three months, standing in the cold all day etc. but it does set you up for the year.

I'm guessing it might be too much to rustle up some of Nigella's breakfast bars on a Sunday for the week ahead? They're quite child friendly to make. Get ingredients from Aldi where possible, they are a lot cheaper for nuts and fruit than the others.

These came up on Who do You Think you Are. Tracey Emin's ancestors made these. It was listed on an official document, e.g. marriage certificate or a census paper.

I'd not vacuum the sitting room .... sounds like a lot of work and high potential for disaster. Sit on your bum and look at the floor thinking "somebody should vacuum that".

Sundays should be a roast, with yorkshires, roast spuds and loads of veggies.....

I had a cheese, tomato and salad cream sandwich :)

I must have been a very, very good girl to earn yesterdays slovenliness then! :A

Just got back from a walk around town (figured the daylight and exercise would be a good idea). Very very nearly stopped off in a pub for Sunday lunch, then decided I wasn't really ready for dinner so early. Most of the nicer pubs round here only do Sunday lunch until 3pm (or when they sell out). What I would really like is for someone to present me with a roast dinner at about 5/ 5:30.

    Instead I picked up a pie :):)
