Hope all goes smoothly viva.Doozergirl wrote: »...Access to the expensive stuff and the urge to compare, compete or keep up with the people with expensive stuff. Potentially decreasing happiness as per Lydia's study, which I find absolutely true.
I am much happier since I decided not to compare. Not only is it incredibly damaging, you're usually comparing yourself to, and chasing, an illusion - meaning you will never be happy.
Absolutely agree 100%. :beer:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
I had the opposite advice - washers are 2 a penny to buy and replacing is easy. Taps which quarter turn have more expensive bits in them and are often manufacturer dependent, so drips are more expensive to fix.
Friends have those feature taps with removal hoses, they seem happy with them, but in my mind they become too much of a feature.
I think what my dad would say is that if you are a competent person and can repair your own taps, then changing washers is fine, however if you need to call someone out to repair your taps - something he could make a living on by itself - then buy one with ceramic discs. It all depends whether you have to factor labour into the cost of changing. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? But here we both are.
nothing we can do about it but pick our selves up. We, and those who are likewise through the looking glass, just have to learn to accept so etchings are kinda back to front and go with the weirdness. Rules of refraction etc don't change cos 'its not fair', mores the pity. We're not going to be unchanged by these trips down rabbit holes but....doesn't have to be all bad IMO. Little bit of a mind bender is illuminating too.
Running total of teas is 41. Someone requested I went back and made them a coffee. So that would make 42.
That's also The end of it for today.
'Its only once a year was trotted out ' as I asked them to pop the dog poles through the gate....
And I smilingly reminded them it might be for them but not for us. Hunt were last week first time this year, hunt will be next again, then cycle race etc etc.....l
We like the events really, but its the ...entitlement and feeling we should be almost grateful that puddles me off a bit. Puts my girls out with the ponies too.
All that tea. Don't they need to use the loo?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I'm definitely not a scarf person.
Maybe people would find it easier to buy me presents if I was.
I'm a no gift person. Buy something you like for your self, and enjoy it. Or have a coffee with me or something. I don't need you to worry about me or have angst about if I'll like it. If you are my friend I enjoy spending time wit you, that's the best thing. It sounds a bit twee when you try and verbalise it.0 -
Couldn't be having with a tap that took more than a quarter turn - we have the tall springy taps with a single lever and pull out shower bit in the kitchen and utility. They are no name black and chrome and so far after about 3 years no problem but no doubt after 5/10 years the cheaper components will start to show. We don't use the pull out that often but it is useful for the odd occasion - say about once a week?
Similar to this but probably ours were only about 70 quid:

I use hedges all the time, quite happily, but DW is built differently. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I use hedges all the time, quite happily, but DW is built differently.
I use hedges too, only some days with limbs I need help up.....or on really bad days help down too
But today was a road race....no saying someone didn't do a 'Paula radcliffe'. People go hunting for 'full days' and most mature ladies bladders don't last that long. Many riders, walkers, and all other country pursuits will have 'polluted' the environment. The trick is to be courteous and thoughtful about where and not to leave litter behind. After all, you won't be the only one there doing it. Foxes, rodents, deer, badgers off the beaten track, and dogs closer too it ( in country side-country side you often don't need to pick up dog poop)
We were really all designed with capacity not to use loos, even if they are preferable. Hedges/ field edges IMO are much safer than slippery/ wet ceramic squatties.0 -
Viva best wishes for your dad.
Gen I had previously missed news of the risk to Mrs Gens Job, so sorry to hear that your annus horribilis continues. Roll on 2015.
From previous posts the concern that I have to your long distance working and/or weathering the misfortune is that Mrs G's health issues may make all this feel like you carry the burden alone. What has always made life's downs bearable for me is that OH and I are loving and united and neither of us of the disposition to blame the other. How will you cope? Not prying just expressing a heartfelt concern, tell me to mind my own business if I have overstepped the mark.
On the topic of comparing I think there lies the road to dissatisfaction. As a couple in our early days of marriage OH and I were considered "yuppies". we have not achieved high net worth financially but have an emotional capital base that I would not swap for money.Which is why when OH downshifted 10 years ago I was happy to support the drop in income, and he more recently supported my move to part time .
We are working class kids made good (enough) that will do. For our friends who have achieved position and/or wealth we are not envious but pleased for them. In turn they remain friends and have not left us behind and continue to be constant and consistent in their support.Others who outgrew us have parted a while ago and I am not curious as to their current fortunes.0
