We have friends in Baku and a mutual friend that works out there on occassion. Seems to be quite an ex pat community.

It's odd that the gentle game of cricket has evolved into a sport where it's okay to throw a lump of wood as hard as you possibly can at someone's head. From pretty close range. With a run up.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Oh no, it seemed to be going so well for Mrs Generali! Would you guys consider a longer contract ( two years or something) somewhere....the kids are far enough away from exam years still aren't they? Might make a together move to somewhere worth it?

Can you unquote the photo please LIR?

Nah, it's always been like that.

The rule that you are out if you interfere with the field was introduced after 2 close fielders were killed in short succession as the batsman whacked them in the head with his bat when they were trying to catch the ball in the C18th!

If you want to work for yourself, Gen, the phrase is JFDI. Don't wait until you're ready; you won't be.

The Crystal Palace (and Australia) captain put his bat out on the match ball yesterday, as did several clubs. Everybody is touched. I hope Sean Abbott finds the strength to play again.

All we really need is for Mrs Generali to be settled in a job somewhere so we're bringing in enough to pay the rent. We do need that though.

It can be tough when you think you know what you're going to do and, yet again, some unseen bugg4h pulls the rug out from under you.

One thing to remember is: it isn't always necessary to know where you're going, or to have a plan ..... you're in a lovely place at least. It could be worse, you could be having a crapola life while living on the 17th floor of a council block of flats in somewhere rough.

Something will turn up ... it always does.

Thanks Pastures. The original reason for moving here was that if we're going to be broke, better to be broke somewhere with nice beaches.

You're right of course. We're much better off than we would be if we were living in Tower Hamlets in a high rise in so many ways.

Being sick is getting really old now. That wees me off. "It's ok as long as you've got your health". Great. What if you don't?

We do the right thing. We got educated, we got proper jobs. I eat well and keep fit. We work hard and don't scrounge. My SiL's husband has had 76 sick days this year basically because he can't be arsed. I don't pull that crap. I even worked when I was having radiotherapy.

Life? Don't talk to me about life.

Gen, sorry to hear the stars aren't aligning for you. Does Mrs G get a redundancy payment? Could you all come over here for a 6 month contract?

“Funny,” he intoned funereally, “how just when you think life can’t possibly get any worse it suddenly does.”

    No

The point would be that I can live on Scotch Mist, just about, in London (perhaps with a tiny drop of real Scotch occasionally to carry me through).

I could send a lot of money home which would give us a financial boost. Part of the problem we have is that all the travails of the last few years mean we have no savings left, in fact we have some quite nasty debts, which means we can't throw money at any problems we have now.

Got a slipped disk (maybe) while moving house? Too bad, gotta do it yourself anyway.

Life. Loathe it or ignore it. You can't like it.
