Most stressful day yesterday, the boys were left upset by their dad's actions who is down for the weekend and when autistic people get upset, boy they get upset.
If I had been seperated from my children, had travelled 500 miles, I think the first thing I would do on arrival in the town would be to go see them and give them a cuddle and would then prioritise having time with them....not not bother to see them immediately, try to fit seeing them into everything else and ultimately, let them down.
I think I aged about 20 years yesterday, felt bloody awful, stressed and my eczema and IBS has flared up as a result. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
You must be related to this fictional character, Rob McKenna
(though not the miserable b****** bit, of course!).
M&D are considering investing in a satnav because of Dad's episodes and trying to relieve general stress over travelling. The problem I think they'll have is that she doesn't have a smartphone, and only has an iPad by way of computer. Satnavs appear to need a PC type of machine for the updates.
Someone on the techie forum recommended a toad grip for the satnav, but I've not managed to identify what they mean (I think I can visualise it but a search under that name doesn't reveal anything).
I have a sat nav in each car (cheapest Tom Tom) and the only update they have ever had is when we moved to Aus from the UK. That's never caused a problem. It sometimes thinks tolls exist where they've been cancelled but that doesn't bother me.
I think they're great. It relieves a source of distraction while driving and makes for easier navigation, especially if you don't know an area.0 -
Mil lives in an old mill house it's 3 fields from the road and only one field has a track. When it rains a lot it's not a given that a 4x4 won't get stuck so I will be taking wellies today just in case the clapped out off road only RR can't make it. On the plus side the brakes now work for the first time in a year and they put off road tyres I found them on recently.
Oh and I graduated on Thursday. When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0 -

If I had been
I think many/ most/ all of us feel that we would things differently to your ex. I'm sorry that you are on the receiving end of it all, and your boys suffer because of him.
It is such a shame that he doesn't seem to realise what he is missing out on. Your boys are fab. (not that if they weren't it would be any kind of an excuse!)0 -

I can't remember visual information well enough to do that for a long journey.
I used to think that satnavs were for wimps because I can read a map. But I have come to realise that yes, I can read a map, and I can also drive a car, but I can't safely do both at the same time. I also appreciate the way the satnav app will tell me how long it thinks the journey is going to take, and reroute me if the traffic is bad on the obvious route and an alternative would be faster. You couldn't just turn off the vent the phone is currently in?
I suppose that hot air definitely is bad for phones?
Insulation? (Bit of bubble wrap, maybe.)We took the Generalissimos to Luna Park today, a sort of old-fashioned fu fair in Sydney. It was a family day out from Mrs Generali's work.
It was quite a laugh actually. We got lunch, went on loads of rides including the roller coaster twice (The Girl is too small to go on by herself). It was a really nice day out actually. Bloody scorcher though. It was 45C out where we live. A bit cooler at the park though as it's by the Harbour and gets a bit of a sea breeze.
Fun, fun, fun and I say that despite it not being my sort of thing. It'll be one of those days out that they'll remember as being part of a Sydney childhood.I think....0 -

I find as long as you have a signal setting off, it will manage to keep a signal.
Used it to get to friend's house yesterday. They've moved to the sticks (there isn't even a pub in the village they live in , I think the cricket club opens on a Fri and Sat eve and that's it) so no signal when I set off back home. Good job I was paying attention on the way over (and that the journey wasn't tooooo complicated).
When abroad we put the destination on the iphone when on wifi and its map calculate the route. Once out in the car we have no wifi and no data, but it continues to direct along the route using GPS to know where we are. Works fine except it doesn't know about traffic jams and can't re-route if you leave the path.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
