We took the Generalissimos to Luna Park today, a sort of old-fashioned fu fair in Sydney. It was a family day out from Mrs Generali's work.

It was quite a laugh actually. We got lunch, went on loads of rides including the roller coaster twice (The Girl is too small to go on by herself). It was a really nice day out actually. Bloody scorcher though. It was 45C out where we live. A bit cooler at the park though as it's by the Harbour and gets a bit of a sea breeze.

Fun, fun, fun and I say that despite it not being my sort of thing. It'll be one of those days out that they'll remember as being part of a Sydney childhood.

Only one thing for it then .... Mr Heath Robinson, who lives at my house, says this is a job for a strip of velcro on the dash and the back of the phone :)
I hate Velcro - almost as much as I hate mushrooms. Also velvet; I hate the feel of them. Sends shivers down my spine!

You have Velcro? I have never heard of that one before. I have heard of people that don't like Velcro fastenings on shoes but have never before met someone that rejects the idea of Velcro itself.

I love a good mushroom. Ceps/porcini. Nom. Really good in a gravy with roast beef.

I don't know if I would recognise real from fake velvet. That's a product of growing up in the 70s I think. Lots of fancy stuff was faked and people would call it by the wrong name.

Satnavs are cheap now and frankly I wouldn't drive without one, although I am also the sort of person who would drive off a cliff if the satnav said so. Probably...

My DH drove us across a farmers field one day because the satnav told him to. Some walkers were most surprised.

I've never seen/used a sat nav, so no idea how useful they are. But, I do know that, trying to find individual roads, in the dark/rain, when I've bought things on ebay, is a bit tricky if you've missed a turning and don't know where you are or where you're going, the phone doesn't get a signal and the car interior light's too dim to read the map :)

I've just been lucky so far on those trips.

I use the navigation setting on the google maps app on my phone. It's pretty good. I find as long as you have a signal setting off, it will manage to keep a signal.

Used it to get to friend's house yesterday. They've moved to the sticks (there isn't even a pub in the village they live in , I think the cricket club opens on a Fri and Sat eve and that's it) so no signal when I set off back home. Good job I was paying attention on the way over (and that the journey wasn't tooooo complicated).

Luna Park in Melbourne was part of my Aussie childhood. We would go there every year as a treat the same day that we would go to the Boulevard in Ivinghoe (a suburb) to see all the Christmas decorations on the houses. Walking through the mouth to Luna Park means it is nearly Christmas to me.

It's strange being a kid in Aus when you've had Christmases in the cold in the UK, you need to redefine them. My parents did this through the visits to Luna Park and the Christmas decs in the posh suburbs, it is uniquely Australian.

I have once driven down something that was a green lane I would not have wanted to tackle not in a four wheel drive, but the sat nav was indicating it as a legal route. And I wouldn't want to do it in a lwb four wheel drive ideally either thinking about it. It was good fun, but I didn't go back that way :p

    It's all right, I know I'm weird.
maybe there's a name for someone who hates the feel of velvet and the feel/sounds of Velcro. If not maybe I should make one up.

And ... it's raining. Either again, or still. Same result.

You must be related to this fictional character, Rob McKenna :D

(though not the miserable b****** bit, of course!).

M&D are considering investing in a satnav because of Dad's episodes and trying to relieve general stress over travelling. The problem I think they'll have is that she doesn't have a smartphone, and only has an iPad by way of computer. Satnavs appear to need a PC type of machine for the updates.

Someone on the techie forum recommended a toad grip for the satnav, but I've not managed to identify what they mean (I think I can visualise it but a search under that name doesn't reveal anything).
