I don't have time to read through the paper properly at the moment but I have bookmarked it(I have a stack of others on the go...), but even doing all 5 of those is not a guarantee of anything. Sure, it increases, I'd guess greatly, your chances, but it isn't going to prevent everything.

Oh I agree. It's about shading the odds in your favour.

Hmm, that seems alright. Why am I convinced he cannot tow then? I know the 97 dates as was vital for me. I wonder if 2013 date was a postponement or something? Hmm. Something isn't tallying or is not explaining fully I think.

    Oh well.

If you look on his licence it should tell you what categories he is allowed to drive.

Not necessarily. My work is a LOT more fun than my PhD was. :)

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

The residual is end-of-year work stress, sharing my space with someone else (who is lovely but...), the usual thesis stuff and fighting the urge to hibernate. I could really do with a break from myself, but that is unlikely to happen. Could be a lot worse.

How is the thesis? Is there anything we can do/say to encourage you?

Well that's it then, I'm giving up water. There's no way I'm getting cancer again.

Did you see that study from Cardiff that kinda covers what I was saying about the 5 things you need to do to live a long healthy life (on average)?

    http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/12/131209181059.htm

    Here is the actual study:

    http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0081877

It's amazing really. I went over this with the Generalissimos and asked them to guess what the 5 healthy things were. Once I got them away from 'being happy' which was related to a previous conversation, they managed to guess all 5 (plus don't take drugs).

There are also studies showing that having a network of people with whom you have meaningful relationships is just as important as the other stuff.

On the basis of 6 things, I score:
    - don't be fat not too bad
    - eat loads of veggies and fruit could do better
    - don't drink too much check
    - exercise every day (a brisk walk is enough) could do better
    - don't smoke check
    - network of relationships check
I got the correct medication today, and they assured me they have eno

Let us know how you get on with them.

Oh, and I like non-mushy peas but not mushy ones.

I find birdseye peas or any brand petit pois are good, any other brand peas are not - kids and I like eating them still frozen.

DW annoys me in that she thinks it is fine to disturb the neighbours whatever the time whereas I think it is always rude - I guess she used to live in SE London where you never got quiet and no one cared but I wish she would set a better example to the kids :(
    I think....

I have the shakes like I leaf in the wind. Hope this passes. We're test driving a car I don't want this evening. ( real white elephant...for's been talked into it by current garage, I just said yesterday I wasn't that sort of car owner.....its older than current car, its 'old money' in that its old , cost who first bought it bucket loads , and now would cost us bucket loads. Silly idea I think. He's trying to sell it to me as vintage lux. I'm saying its 'transport'.

Michaels, we're looking at you're suggestion tomorrow, not ruling anything out. If fir can look at old bangers I can look at brand new cars that will work out cheaper.

I'm wondering if it would ever be at all possible for is to lease and return.

My nan was overweight, had a diet which was never particularly healthy and drank regularly, she never smoked though and did like to dance (she outdanced all my friends at my wedding when she was almost 87)

She lived to nearly 91 and only died because the hospital missed the needle in her foot going septic which eventually caused blood poisoning and ultimately, her death.

She went out to live life to the full after being told at age 14 that she would be dead before she was out of her teens due to a heart condition and just never stopped, massive character she was, always lived for the now and survived an almost direct hit on her house during the London bombings...that woman must have had nine lives!

Rebember (as The Girl says) the plural of anecdote is anecdotes not data.

    We run 2 cars.

One is a tiny Toyota bought new, the smallest we can buy here (they do a smaller one in the UK though) which is great for short journeys/shopping trips etc. Then we have a big lump of a car which depreciates quickly (66% depreciation over the first 3 years:T) which we bought at 3 years old.

The tiny Toyota is amazing for single passenger journeys to working off-site or 5km journeys. The big car is great for carrying lumps around and for the occasional drive up to Brisbane &c.

This is almost certainly similar to what we'll end up doing if fir gets the RR. Only bonus will be he says LR can go to breakers what ever happens.
