I am so allergic to oysters ....
I've never had them. I saw them once, about 2 years ago, at a food festival.

I've got a rule about not eating nasty, creepy, slimey looking food :)

Do any of the nice men use an electric shaver? ( is that a sensitive question? )

I use a wet razor. Electric ones kinda pluck out each hair which I find deeply unpleasant.

I'd have a beard if I had to use an electric razor.

I have never heard the word parabens before this thread... and have absolutely no idea what it/they are, or if it's important/urgent/dangerous or what!

    http://www.realsimple.com/beauty-fashion/skincare/worry-about-parabens

    So What’s the Problem?

In the 1990s, parabens were deemed xenoestrogens―agents that mimic estrogen in the body. “Estrogen disruption” has been linked to breast cancer and reproductive issues. And in 2004 British cancer researcher Philippa Darbre, Ph.D., found parabens present in malignant breast tumors.

As a result, experts in many countries are recommending limits on paraben levels in cosmetic products. What’s more, watchdog organizations worry that if parabens can be stored in the body, over time they could have a cumulative effect and pose a health risk.

But here’s the flip side: Critics of the British study point out that noncancerous tissue from healthy breasts wasn’t examined to see if parabens were also present there, and that the presence of parabens in tumors doesn’t prove that they caused the cancer.

Other studies have shown parabens to have a very weak estrogenic effect. All this leads to concern about the unknown. Cook-Bolden tells her patients that “so far there’s no scientific evidence to support any link with any form of cancer.”

Currently, the amount of parabens in any product is typically quite small. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the World Health Organization consider the chemicals safe at low levels

I was wrong about them being banned in USA.

Oh nom, nom, nom, nom, nom. NOM!!!

I really miss European oysters. The ones in Aus are kinda iodine tasting which is vile. One of the things I do when I return to the UK is eat loads and loads of oysters. Nomtastic.

I have them with shallot vinegar. Nom.

    Good health is simple:

    - don't be fat
    - eat loads of veggies and fruit
    - don't drink too much
    - exercise every day (a brisk walk is enough)
    - don't smoke

Everything else is flim flam. If you do those then you'll add an extra 5-10 healthy years to your life. Other things might add a few weeks to life expectancy if that.

It is annoying isn't it, in my day being young was all about nihilism and selfishness, the young ones refelcted student life, nowadays students ar epolitely serving you in the supermarket whilst studign full time :(

Hmm, TRV theft, lets think about motive...

Chocolate is ok but if it didn't exist I wouldn't be upset - something wrong with me?

Try working with a bunch of alpha millenials. F.... they're amazing. All of them are studying something. Doing a masters whilst working as an analyst. Once they get a bit more work experience our generation is screwed.

That's how I feel about chocolate...but less. I'd be upset, I like it. But there are other things.

What I dislike is chocolate appearing in things it doesn't belong in. Like....chocolate bread and butter pudding. No. Chocolate panettone. No. Chocolate pancakes. Nope. Breakfast cereal? Seriously? I mean...just have pudding and be done with it. No, really, have pudding, I mean it. Live a little, enjoy real food...pudding once a year for breakfast won't kill you. Every day it might eventually though.

Some things just aren't better with chocolate IMO.

I was with you up till cereal, and have only one thing to say. COCO POPS :T:T:T:beer: :D

    update

my list of complaints diminishes rapidly. I have been invited out for tea but I am tired due to my broken night so chilling out then going to have a sleep.

Glad to hear that the physio has had a good effect and hope you have a good sleep :)

I dunno - not all studying is enjoyable! ;)

Am feeling seriously pressured about the amount of work I have to do over the next 2 days in order to complete 2 assessments and prepare for my next workshop on Friday. Work today was infinitely preferable :(
I do feel better, thank you. Think it also a) having a moan to a friend at work and b) being told this afternoon (by an external collaborator who is very clever) that something I said a couple of weeks ago that had been (politely) dismissed was actually correct :) If it hadn't been specifically pointed it out I probably wouldn't have noticed.

The residual is end-of-year work stress, sharing my space with someone else (who is lovely but...), the usual thesis stuff and fighting the urge to hibernate. I could really do with a break from myself, but that is unlikely to happen. Could be a lot worse.

Congrats on the compliment and getting it right! :T

{{ Hugs}} on everything else, in a "giving you lots of hibernation space" non-dodgy kinda way. Hope you have a better weekend. :)

I'm with you on that one, for sure.

Interesting article today about the sugar risks in foods often perceived as 'healthy':

I was serious about beds in John Lewis sale. They have genuine half price offers and they deliver free.

Decent double for £349 - would be cheaper in the sale.

Do they often have sales? I've delegated you the job of keeping an eye out for a JL sale bed with drawers at £175 or cheaper, delivered :)
