World's biggest archaeological experiment. How to Build a Medieval Castle. It's in France, but Brits doing it. 17 years into the 25 year project now.
Just started watching it. Quite interesting!“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -
Huge congratulations to HJD the younger....
Taken my very strong pain killers tonight, can barely move and in a lot of pain, no idea why, haven't really overdone it, maybe I am sickening for something.
Josh got the result from one of the units he resubmitted on Friday, this was one where I took one look and nagged him horribly (my new nickname is The Dictator, or the worst nightmare teacher ever as I wouldn't let him hand it in again until it was a lot better, which took a fair few rewrites), he has gone from an ungraded to a merit.
well done to Josh. sorry to read about the pain. what do you take?0 -
Thanks all. I am equally blessed to know such Nice People who offer help. I think we are OK with near neighbours and friends assistance.I am also doing well and managing tasks quite well one handed. so far carrying washing down is the only thing that has defeated me.
I find throwing the dirty washing down from the top of the stairs solves the problem of the washing basket. Then you can take clean stuff up a bit at a time. Or you could just strip off downstairs and thus cut out the stairs bit.
Hope that doesn't sound too facetious, it wasn't meant to!0 -
Hope Miss Spirit is ok too - must be difficult on her knowing she's so far away and unable to help.0

We had hot taps fitted at work. They are hardly ever both working. I guess that they are heavily used, and perhaps weren't the best quality chosen, but still. Everyone also complains that they don't run hot enough to make a good cup of tea either.
Like I said, I expect they didn't opt for the deluxe range, but still.
I don't think ours is deluxe in any way but the 'quocker' is the branded one and is about 1k I think.
I did notice recently OH filled a pan for pasta and I went to make a coffee and it was lukewarm so maybe they are only good for domestic 'light use'? I waited a couple of mins and she was fine.
They only heat up to 98 degs not 100.
I think the most teas we made in one go was about 12 and she seemed to cope.
It works the same as those water heaters that people used to have (we still have an ancient one at work).
We are in a HW area and it has a built in filter which, I believe sorts out lime scale but it needs replacing every 6 months (so due about now I guess).PasturesNew wrote: »Re taps - also, when I see them on the telly adverts I always think "OMG, the hazard that'd be in the kitchen of somebody with dementia...." never mind small children and a cat randomly knocking it.
Just another ... "thought" ... that's random.
Not saying any fool doesn't have the right to be parted from their money.... just lobbing in random thoughts
Oh cheers PN I thought it was fairly good value based on aesthetic and usefulness reasons;)
We were concerned about my old Dad washing his hands under it (as he is deaf but pretends to hear what you say) and we showed him it, he didn't clock what it was about and later tried to turn it on to wash his hands (and failed as you have to push down and then back for Boiling.....bit like the reverse gear on a car)....plus there is a dead flash very luxe tap alongside it. If you pull it forward (which is easy) just filtered cold comes out.ukmaggie45 wrote: »hjd huge congrats to your daughter - fabbo result, and I'm sure she worked really hard for it.
Generali, as ever, sending The Vibes. I still sit in the front porch and think of you while looking at the garden. Hugs if that's OK.
And Spirit too. Especially when we have a great sunset sky. Hugs to you too, if that's OK. You really seem to be coming on in leaps and bounds. :j
Looks like we might make it to London over Xmas, is there a date and place for meet yet? Would be fun to add more faces to names. Had so much fun meeting my book friend again in October when she gave the talk in Persephone Books shop. I love meeting internet friends in RL.
Not sure where or when but my offer of a house do is still there on the table if that suits the majority....... Or if people prefer to meet up central and do a 'place' instead that's equally fine by meI am easy either way (and obviously wouldn't be offended in any way if a central London venue is preferred.....get's me out the suburbs for a day
)
Ultimately, it needs to be a venue that can suit most in terms of 'getting to and from' and then being able to mingle, eat, chat etc .
Having said that.....If an NP vote does want to take up our offer, a date decision would be dead handy for me as I am filling up dates in that Xmas 10 days as I owe so many people hospitality (having had no house to entertain in for nearly 2 years.
I just realised we have the new tourist attraction out the back (2 min walk away) which is now open to the public for the 1st time in decades. We used to go up it as kids (so that's 40 odd yrs ago) and she was derelict ever since.
As it's run by volunteers, it has lean mean opening hours

Great view and only 86 spiral steps so you get more dizzy than you do achy legs.0 -

Much obliged!
Spirit, sorry to hear of the situation with the norovirus. Hope DH gets sorted ASAP.

oh is mastering his crutches and moving quite well but yelps if his knee moves at all. he is going to try stairs tonight so that he can come to bed.
he has eaten toast tonight, and so far that has stayed down so that is progress
I am not sure who I upset to have earned the recent trials but on the plus side it is good training for being old.
Oh what bad luck you 2 have. Poor OH.
I don't think you have upset anyone (as I think Karma only goes into the next life, not the current one), it's just old fashioned back luck.
Good neighbours are worth their weight in gold....one of the bonuses of not moving is having great neighbours who would rally in any emergency or difficult situation.0 -

OH and I have decided we need to walk more and be more adventurous so I am hoping to plan an out of season cheapy walking type mini holiday for next year (out of school times) and we were thinking coming down your way carry on to Dorset maybe..I don't know, just a vague idea at the mo.
Maybe you might have nearly finished next May?0 -
I'll post up the days I'm free, maybe tonight. I'm a bit distracted with docs tomorrow.0
