PN That sounds like our house. If anything needs fixing, it can't be done until something else is done....and that can't be done until something else is done...etc
so the work and the cost just escalates, and I feel paralysed with terror at the cost of everything, or am afraid to ask anyone for a quote in case we can't possibly afford it.
A lot of things in the house need fixing at the moment. It's a real can of worms.
That's the situation we are in too. Its a bit like pick up sticks. Till you have a pile small enough to deal with the collapse .....you hope!0 -

The actual big job is that hedge at the back its about 18ft high of Leylandii, going to cost an arm and a leg to get that trimmed especially as the other side is a public footpath. After the plumbing jobs that cropped up recently and done on Tuesday i am a wondering if i should leave it until feb/march.When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0 -

The hedge: Can't you cut it off at the roots and plant something else?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Well i value my life for a start, my [STRIKE]lovely[/STRIKE] wife would kill me even though i agree with you. Its very important for privacy and cuts the noise of the junction and shop behind, such a shame it isn't something else laurel of some kind for instance. I really really hate Leylandii always have. When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0 -
We cut down a lot of them we we got here, and its true the loss of privacy and increase in noise short term is galling. We're replacing ( achingly slowly ) with something that is hopefully going to be less oppressing ( fwiw I would find a wall of laurel as bad).
I hope to get some more plants/trees next spring.0 -

I've not even got to that bit yet. Whilst I'm trying to get the first thing on the list sorted out more and more things keep cropping up that need dong (e.g. a wall falling over, a door handle breaking, noticed a new damp patch under a windowsil...)0 -

Yeah... phased approach... I'm definitely going to be phasing for a while! (unless I manage to win the lottery or hook up with a builder)0 -

I think next thing for us, once we have some t's crossed etc is to remove 'old bathroom' suite and lion, and just let that floor ( which we 'know' we have to remove) Dry out and forget about it for a while. Then tackle that and the rooms below I think. ( but maybe not fully, not new windows yet....just ceilings and walls and stuff)0 -
