Mrs. Wheezy's extremities are always cold. She doesn't use a hot water bottle, but uses:

    AND
    lavender_pillow_di.jpg
    (that's not Mrs Wheezy btw)
    AND

and she's very generous with the thermostat also (much more generous than GDB :)), meaning I barely use my bit of the duvet, and will often sleep uncovered (in my jammies of course), or just covered by a sheet.

Thanks , I've been trying to remember the name of those socks for some one else! They are brilliant. I wear them in my slippers. Even my feet defrost.

They've got those microwave slippers in my local "random, bankrupt stock style, cheapo shop". I saw them the other day and thought my usual thought ... "wouldn't want to be putting things that've trod in everything inside the microwave where I cook food" - and the usual "I'd be scared they'd catch light in the microwave".

I know you have an imminent anniversary and just wanted to let you know my thoughts are with you.

Thank you PN. How thoughtful you are. It's today. Dinner out at local pub with in-laws last night.

I'm OK. It's been 5 years. And more than 9 since he left. It's at the back of my mind, but the forefront of it is filled with more immediate concerns - have DD's parents' evening tonight, and need to talk to her teacher about what she's saying about being bullied, need to fix up with therapist for her, need to deal with her accumulated hoard in the playroom sufficiently to be able to get at the fuse box so as to be able to get the bloke round to connect up the Tado box, etc etc. Also list of stuff to consider about DS, mostly concerning latest school developments in relation to his dyslexia. Oh, and my job, which is busy as always, except not on Thursdays because that's my day off.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Have you chosen a therapist from the four short listed?

We have met three. The fourth only does private practice during office hours, which isn't suitable for DD who needs out of school hours.

She has chosen one. I need to get back to her about it. I will try to do that later today. Or maybe this weekend.
I thought it was tomorrow; it's been on my mind to send you wishes for the past week, but didn't want to do it "too soon" and, clearly, got the date wrong :(

I noticed you hadn't said you were going for your usual meal and assumed you'd mention it at the last minute/after.

Yes, today's stuff keeps the mind occupied and it's important to keep doing today stuff.

No, you didn't get the date wrong. You mentioned it today, and today is a good day for you to have mentioned it. No need for a :(

Making progress installing the Tado box. I phoned customer support to check which of the two boxes it was that had to be at least 40cm away from the boiler, and it's the other one, so everything's fine.

Ran into a bit of difficulty following the (v clear) online instructions because you have to do one small thing and then click next to go to the next page. Except that my boiler's on the same circuit as my sockets, so once I'd switched off the power to the boiler, my router had no power either so I had no internet. Put the power back on, clicked through all the pages saving them to my laptop's hard drive, and tried again. All serene until I got to the bit where you have to take photos for future reference of the wiring that's already on the wall. Found phone, but battery too low to take photos. Found camera but no memory card. Turned sockets back on and had something to eat while waiting for phone to charge. Took photos. All fine. Turned power back off and carried on.

Next problem was fitting the new box onto the backplate that was already there for the old box. The old box had wiring up the side that had been enclosed in some thick plastic trunking, right up against it. New box a few mm wider - won't fit unless the trunking has a bit cut off.

This is where I admit defeat. Jabbing a Stanley knife into thick plastic to try to cut bits off it is not beyond me, but if it has mains wiring behind it then I'm not prepared to give that a go. I wasn't afraid of being electrocuted, because I know the power was off, but I'm afraid I might damage the wiring and then there might be a problem later when the power was turned back on. So I have booked Helpful Builder. He can come at 6ish tomorrow evening.

Have put the old box back on and restored power.

Not happy to have been defeated by it, but looking on the bright side - can get Helpful Builder to do another couple of v small and quick repair jobs while he's here tomorrow.

Yep.... You lost me at 'phoned customer services'.

That's the point at which I'd admit defeat and either call a handyman or get Mrs McT to do it.

PN That sounds like our house. If anything needs fixing, it can't be done until something else is done....and that can't be done until something else is done...etc :( so the work and the cost just escalates, and I feel paralysed with terror at the cost of everything, or am afraid to ask anyone for a quote in case we can't possibly afford it.

A lot of things in the house need fixing at the moment. It's a real can of worms.

Then you turn on HutH and the majority of them on there seem to have an entire house makeover for just £1-5k! :)
You and I both know just a window quote alone would come in at £5k.... so where the quotes came from for them to get a new kitchen, bathroom, boiler, all replastered, roof fixed, new interior doors, carpets and a new fireplace and the whole lot decorated in budget god only knows.
