Once again, that would be the point at which I get Mrs McT to do it....

DH and I have been talking about how happy we are with it.

Bear in mind our windows are slightly distorted as a result of the Buncefield explosion. We will need new windows at some point, but we're probably talking £3-5k. At the moment, we'd rather pay that off the mortgage. This has given us the same degree of toastiness, but for less than £10. Very happy!

If and when you need double glazing I have someone I have used that is reliable and won't rip you off. I can't remember exactly where you are, but this guy is based in Enfield and travels reasonable distances.

Thanks silver, that's very handy to know. There's one guy who has replaced a lot of windows around here and he does a good job, but I just can't like him and wouldn't use him. He says that he'll do it in x time but does it in x+y time. And that's just one of the reasons I'm not keen. Windows, as things stand at the moment, probably about 5 years away. Would rather wait and get them done well than skimp and done now.

Speaking of which, did anyone else hear on the news that there's a tiger on the loose near Disneyland Paris?

If the soil is sticky then you definitely should stay off it for the sake of the soil structure. It's not as if the weeds will keep growing much at this time of year - or so I keep telling myself :o;):D

Ha ha ha - the bloody weeds keep growing even when it's freezing! I know we need to keep off the soil, it's difficult. Basically I put a chair down, and dig in front, then move chair backwards. It kind of works. But we have to try do something as allotment inspection is either imminent or has happened and we missed our chance to look marginally OK. Urk.

I've not even got to that bit yet. Whilst I'm trying to get the first thing on the list sorted out more and more things keep cropping up that need dong (e.g. a wall falling over, a door handle breaking, noticed a new damp patch under a windowsil...)

    :(

Try not to worry too much. Just do the first simple thing to begin with - door handle? Then escalate to next easiest. Though I do remember your wall... So long as it's safe for passers by you can prob leave that for now. New damp patch, we need more detail to help with that... What does other side look like? Any blocked air bricks? Is soil rising up above your damp proof course?

Hugs dear Nikkster, hope you can sort it out. I'm sure you can get there - you done great on the gardening which also new to you!

    I was thinking that too!
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Or was it a bear, a piglet, a donkey, an owl and a couple of kangaroos?

    Thanks for the vibes :)

The wall is sat where it was - no chance of anything happening with that for a while! Unfortunately the garden has been rather neglected for the past few months so I'll probably be starting from almost square one next year. But at least I'll have a bit more of a clue this year and know that I enjoy spending time out there :)

Pretty sure the damp patch is above the damp course... its below an upstairs window. Most of the windows look like there has been some damp underneath them - I'm guessing a shoddy job was done of the double glazing installment way back whenever - most of them don't appear to be damp now (crosses fingers).

Just over the Essex border I think last year was similar. I think (but don't quote me on this) it turned out to be house cat. (ETA: Here)

15 minutes into my birthday, 20 degrees outside, sat on the outside bar with few members of most delegations, drinking Maltese red.....don't mind if I do :D:cool:
