Hmm, I am feeling very paranoid? Towards the end of that programme we were just discussing (Escape to the Country) I caught sight of a youngish bloke walking past our house through the blinds, and I felt he was looking in, and I had a feeling he was going to ring the bell, and he did. Because I thought he prob saw me through the blinds I answered the door.

He waved a photo thingy at me that I couldn't see (can't see anything detailed without my glasses) told me he was doing an "important government survey" and there were only a couple of easy questions to answer. That "No. x at whatever road" (our address) was on his list to ask. I said he'd have to come back when my husband was here and speak to him. Just had bad feeling about him. This was between around 3.30 and 4.00, my reply to PN was ready to send (but unsent) when he rang the doorbell.

OH just contacted the cops (he refused for ages and said I was paranoid), who asked immediately if we were in St Helens (as there is a survey happening there, and they tell the cops if they are doing house to house surveys usually). I gave description of the bloke to the nice lady on phone. I just feel I was really stupid, but I was watching TV and not thinking "Security". But our report is going to be circulated to local cops, and they will keep an eye open for him ask the chap questions if they see him.

Am I just paranoid, or should I be worried?

A little paranoia is extremely healthy! You have no obligation to answer his questions, so it's fine that you sent him packing. Do the same again, if he comes when you are on your own.

Do you have a chain on your front door, so you can talk to people with the door still effectively closed?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

We don't as it's a plastic front door - well, double glazed door butted up to double glazed windows in the porch... Is there any way around that? Surely there must be, we can't be the only folks in UK with that kind of set up!

my ex boss is taking me out to lunch today. I am wearing normal clothes. a dress and knee length boots. no ankle brace. walk is pretty good barely any limp. my toes are not dragging and it feels more normal to wear a small heel.

:T Hope you had a lovely time :)

Just it's hard to get to weed it at the mo, the soil is really waterlogged, plus we're mainly trying to clear old home.

If the soil is sticky then you definitely should stay off it for the sake of the soil structure. It's not as if the weeds will keep growing much at this time of year - or so I keep telling myself :o;):D

    Spirit how was lunch?

Were we all struck dumb by the interior programme?

I liked the two that didn't win, because while I agreed with the judges comments I simply could not have lived in the guy's one. It looked cold. ( and aqua isn't pale teal.....I thought that stair wall looked like a wall at a poorly funded but enthusiastic swimming baths. I think his skill was good, but he essentially did his house in their colour way.

Lunch was good . we went to a local pub restaurant where oh and I go quite often because I could not walk far and wanted to be sure I could access loos independently. ex boss suggested the hugh fearnley whittingstall restaurant that has opened but there is no adjacent parking and it is a converted millso possibly uneven floors.not the usual criteria for choosing a watering hole but times are different.

    She said...

'Don't you dare! I was actually going to suggest we cut a run through for him so he had a clearer route though....

No. No. We want him here. He loves the rats doesn't he? '

At last, they are admitting the rats!

he can come and visit me anytime, though it may be a bit of a trek for him.

    ?

You really are just up the road from me Maggie, every morning I join the 62 at the St Helens junction.

I think if you have felt uncomfortable, then follow your gut instinct.

uPVC doors aren't the strongest. I was broken into about 2 years ago and they basically kicked the centre panels in:(

Spirit, not been around the Np thead for a while, great to hear that you are progressing so well.

That sucks. I was burgled in old house, they kicked the door in. Took retrospective steps both there and here to ensure it didn't happen again. Next door will definitely be a high security composite. None of the doors here are upvc, but I was not aware of their vulnerabilities, so thanks for that.

The rate at which you are recovering Spirit, I hope to hear your restaurant report on the new HFW in the near future, when you can select on where you want to eat. Here's hoping it lives up to the wait too.
