we had blankets and coats on our beds as children. I slept top to toe with my siblings

Blankets were plentiful when I was a kid and there were enough beds for everyone to have one each, but the windows iced up on the inside in winter. They still do in that house, and my dad is still living there. He's finding the cold more troublesome now. He has an electric blanket and has asked me for advice about getting him a silent electric heater. He wants one that won't make a clicking sound as the thermostat goes on and off. I was thinking of an oil-filled radiator, but actually I think their thermostats do click, don't they? Have the NP any suggestions?
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Tonight we watched fireworks in the village to south west. Last night we watched them in village to the north. This month is also heavy month MOD training. Tbh, you get surprisingly used to that, in the way I never did staying near airport or flight paths.

All the animals are totally chilled about it.

    .

Oh was shooting yesterday and some tanks came through and wanted to go where the next drive was. the officer in charge became amenable to waiting when he was introduced to the big cheese who was leading the shoot.

OH did his bit for conservation and did not hit anything.

    :). Goodoh.

Hope had a nice day though. Think range roads open today for remeberance service. We're not able to go today which is a shame, gorgeous, gorgeous weather. We go over Christmas and Easter though. I'd love to ride the tracks up there when they are open. Its surreal enough driving or walking.

I reckon we broke even in the meat raffle this week. We won a chook tray (1 fresh chicken and some satay kebabs) and a breakfast tray (bacon, snags, eggs, tomatoes and lamb chops).

Mrs Generali is in a filthy mood. She's been shouting at me and the Generalissimos all weekend. What fun!

    poor you and poor generalissimos.
what happens if you shout back?

there can be a tyranny to accommodating mental health 'tantrums' as the poorly person bullies those around them and is not asked to check their behaviour.

Yup, more than once. Didn't really work.

Does she need quiet time for revising?

I think that all thermostats have to click. The reason is that the heating coil represents a significant inductive load, so it's necessary to open the contacts rapidly to keep arcing to a minimum.

Maybe an electronic thermostat would not have that problem, but who would build one into an electric fire?

Be cause its so lovely outside we didn't want to leave the dogs inside alone and bored, but because the kiwi is being such a twerp, we cannot leave them outside or with a door propped open with no supervision.

So we've left the girls in and out and brought kiwi in ( for anyone concerned about recent antics its definitely a sheet change day! )

Anyway, to keep him busy we've broken I to his stash of stuff for 'Christmas'. ( not really Christmas stuff so much as new things it makes most sense to give on days we are busy and weather is bad outside.

I think this one which is what I chose to give him, is a hit.

I'm wondering if you got a low power one it might not 'keep up' if set on lowest power and highest temp and thus never get hot enough to click on and off. I think you can get 750w ones but not sure if they have half and full power settings like the 1.5k ones - half 750w would be 375w, big drafty room with the door open and you could easily lose that much.
    I think....
