Lots of things. She has an exam coming up, I'm losing my job, we've been given notice on the house we rent. Still it's a bit crap spending all weekend being beaten up for it. Especially as I've worked my Arsenal off this weekend.

You have my sympathy my wife is the same when stressed, there is no worse feeling when you are powerless to ease that stress.

Have you tried giving her a hug? When I get anxious being met with affection by fir disarms me because its not what I was brought up to expect and the affection and reassurance that I'm not unlovable for being worried and grouchy and that we have plans and I'm not alone makes me not grouchy. ( for a while)

Doesn't matter that it's the rest of the world that you're upset with, it's the person in front of you (and that you know will still be there for you when it has passed) that bears the brunt of it.

You guys have a lot on at the moment, which might make the depression bubble up again?

Doesn't mean that you deserve to be on the rough end of it, by any means, but logic doesn't really come into it.

Edit: and I can hear myself saying (possibly fairly loudly) to the hug - what do you think that is going to do? Fix everything?

Doesn't mean that it wouldn't help me, just that I wouldn't be very grateful :o

Sending hugs for you, Gen, even if they don't work on her. hug.gif

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

This morning I had a 5 min walk into a bustling city centre, and this evening it was another 5 minute walk to an area with a feelingly infinite number ofreally nice bars (not posh ones, but lots of cocktails :)). I miss living near civilisation.

Cities are where it's at. I remember when I moved to London, they had a Time Out Student edition that told you the best places to go. Except it was nowhere near complete; there were masses of gigs going on in pubs all over the place.

I can't fully explain the difference but I've visited Northampton and Nottingham and one was obviously a city and the other was a town and I had no difficulty knowing which I'd enjoy living in. But at the time they both had a similar population size.

I've lived in the suburbs of a biggish city, the centre and the suburbs of a smaller city, a v small town that was a dormitory to a biggish city, and various bits of a biggish town. At this stage in my life I am definitely suburban at heart. I'm not bothered about night life, but I do like to have shops, schools, church, GP, dentist etc within easy reach. Where I am now I also have open countryside within walking distance, but there's also a bus stop where my kids can catch a bus into the centre of town if I'm not available to drive them. No plans to swap with any of the rest of you. :D

My mum (other side of the family) says that when she was a kid and they were poor, they had their coats on the bed instead of blankets. We've come a long way in a short period of time in terms of creature comforts.

we had blankets and coats on our beds as children. I slept top to toe with my siblings
