I guessed that. That's why I feel so strongly about wanting to help you somehow

I'm not ungrateful - far from it. I'm very fortunate that there are a lot of people trying to help and support me. It surprises me how many people care. I just have to block it out to some extent as I don't need to add any more people to my list of people I'm letting down by not making much progress...

I am really struggling to motivate myself to reanalyse data. It reminds me of how poorly my stuff was organised at the end (as life was grinding me down), and how unhappy I was. I also feel that my data is crap and that I should have done a lot more. I also dislike literature searching as I have a lot of years to fill in. Which doesn't leave a lot!

I have decided to leave the data analysis and pooling I've been procrastinating on. I will do everything else in that chapter then move on to others.

I have just had a (well-needed) shower. And changed my necklace (which usually seems to help me change my mindset). After finding it - I last changed it when I was away in August and couldn't find my little pouch of jewellery that lives in my washbag. Turns out I'd put it in my handbag before checking in my suitcase and then turfed it out of my handbag at some point so I wasn't carrying it around and it had become buried under a pile of stuff.

    Big girl pants on.
    Game face on.

No giving up. Even if I don't get to submit, I will have done as much as I was able to this bl00dy thesis.

I'll check that one for authenticity when I come to yours :)
if I have lied then you will be able to empty it

... except you've always got the NPs. We can't make a cuppa from this distance, but we can listen while you moan that you can't make one for yourself :)

not helpless. just had a cottage cheeese sandwich and mint tea. made by myself. it would take more than a paralysed arm to put food beyond my reach. had to eat in kitchen as I do not have a tea trolley on wheels as suggested. we have thresholds on internal doors ahich the wheels would catch.

That's t be expected. Your brain forgets that you can't rush about like you've done for the last 50 years and you suddenly break into a trot, or turn, or something, that your body decides isn't something it's prepared to do on a whim.

it just adds to the bits of me that hurt and makes moving about more painful.nothing serious just energy sapping . back ache, knee pain . to add to the shoulder and arm pain
now that it is not urgent can you make a better fixing for the net curtain?

Curtain rail fixed to ceiling would be good.

Well - and therein lies another story, which I've withheld from you lot as it's another example of how I am DIY Fail.

It was mentioned earlier on this thread that there are expanding netrods that affix at the sides using a pin. The poster (can't recall who, and it's not worth ploughing through just to find it) .... said that they'd used some with sticky pins that you fix to the wall, to support the netrod.

Well - imagine my excitement when I randomly discovered a net rod of that type, that had an expanding length of 1.8m to 3.3m. I knew this was long enough, so bought it immediately, put it in the car and it came inside. Then I undid it to expand it into the gap to see how it looked and to think about the issues I need to consider. . . and then I realised. I've bought the one where the pins need to be screwed into the wall, so I'm stuck at that point how to do that.

I'm sure it involves making a small hole, then screwing the pin in - but I need to think about things such as: how do you screw it in straight? how do you ensure the one on the opposite side's at the same height? What are the chances of me getting this wrong?

So, for now, I have the special net rod and am thinking about it :) Actually, the rod I've got "sags" a little without any weight on it, so it'll probably need supporting with some other Heath Robinson device at some future point too :)

If I lived closer I'd pop over and rebuild that wall for you. I don't think it can be hard.... it's just bricks and they have to be straight and the mortar mixed properly and then pointed right.

I wouldn't let her anywhere near your wall, Nikkster!

Although it sounds unlikely, there are a few things I feel I'd make a good job of - and building walls/pointing has always been one of them. I've even toyed with the idea of learning how to make dry stone walling, except there aren't many of them and they're in specific places .... and I'm rubbish in the cold/wind/rain/outdoors.

I'd be OK having a go at a regular brick wall that was unlikely to become life threatening to others.

I've got blinds rather than net curtains (found the store cheap on eBay, and reasonable-ish quality). They're fixed to the upper inner bit of the window (don't know how to explain, but it's the top of the 'hole' where the window is)

The poles for the curtains are fixed to the wall outside the 'hole', and slot nicely behind the radiators on the three windows this is the case when in use. Same with the curtains over the front and two back doors.

I just fitted the plughole in the inflatable air bed and blew it up. It took 250 pumps of the footpump. Then I chucked a duvet/cover over it. Almost looks like a bed! Then I took my sheepskin rug and gave it a good shake outside and banged it against the wall. That really needs a wash, but it'll need hanging out in the garden for most of the day in good weather, so best left until springtime now.

I wondered whether you could fix that wall with PVA adhesive. Choose a dry day. Paint up all the broken joints with PVA, and pop the wall back again. Wait till the glue sets and check it for strength by pushing it hard. Too much of a bodge?

Shhhhh, I have loads of walls that could do with pointing or building. You wanna be careful what you get roped into.
