I still don't really understand why you said that you would have to dig deep? Is it a big problem to fit this in with your other work commitments? How did the production company get in touch with you, why you, in particular?

My impression is that usually the TV companies get this work done for nothing by the builders. How come they're proposing to pay you?

Finally, I suppose this is a genuine production company, and this is not some elaborate scam?

If they are asking doozers to do many episodes then they will be paid. That seems perfectly legit to me.

They will be a make or break part of the show.

Also makes sense to me doozergirl, given doozers previous work record/ industry.

There is evidence of the program on the 'be on a tv show' type websites.

Should I be signing up? I'm not so keen on being on tv, but there is plenty of scope for improvement in my house! :D

We have enough work commitments for six months. We were recommended by our member organisation because we are National finalists for one of the biggest awards in our sector, the nature of our regional award and our specialism in reno.

If you think about those programs, they have key people that appear week after week. Some use additional volunteers, some don't. The production company is legitimate. I recognised the name immediately. There is evidence of the program on the 'be on a tv show' type websites.

    So, the pluses are
    Publicity
    You get paid for working
    It makes you feel good

    The minuses are
You are already fully committed for this time, so how will you fit the work in?
Will you drive yourselves mad trying to do it all?
You don't have a proper schedule of the work, so you don't know what you are letting yourself in for.

Have I finally understood your dilemma?

The biggest problem may be that they are brilliant film makers but poor at dealing with building projects??
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

The publicity would be good, but would it generate more work, of the type of work you want? Can you handle more work without compromising or expanding faster than you want/need?

Having known someone who had a room enhanced in one of the "update in an hour" programmes, the feedback was that they compromised on workmanship and materials in order to get the work finished on time and within the programme budget. A concern would be how much control you have in quality (work and materials) and timescales.

I remember being shown the moon landings; they took us out of class to watch it on a TV. It felt utterly precarious, and astonishingly daring., as there had only been people in space for about 8 years.
I was a bit too young to remember the first moon landing, but I vaguely remember the later missions, but still, too young to realize what it was all about.
There was a good program on the Russian space program on BBC4 2 weeks ago..."Cosmonauts: How Russia Won the Space Race". Highly interesting, amazing archive footage and not dumbed down for a change. :)

Similar for me, maybe a year or so later.

I think I remember the final moon shot being replayed on TV when I was a really little kid but I can't really remember. It was just a black and white rocket on a black and white TV.

My mate and I were taken out of class for the first few shuttle launches: we got to sit in a teacher's cupboard to watch it. I watched every shuttle launch I think until Colombia exploded either live or recorded when I got home. I don't think I watched another one afterwards.

Apparently you have a 1% chance of dying on a space mission.

Are NPs with houses for sale getting viewings/feedback?

I had various viewings before we pulled the house from the market (again), but only one offer for around £100k less than the house was on the market for.

The property we want has come off the market again (it's sold twice in the last 3 years), so waiting to see if it comes up again and if so we'll maybe look at trying to sell for a third time.

Sorry to hear that, it is an awful time as you want to pack/believe it'll happen, yet can't be sure until exchange.... then suddenly it's a rush and you're off with a few days' notice, or not!

I didn't realise NRP was selling. I remember "they" sold and I remember NRP was looking, but hadn't realised they'd actually bought. It seems such a short time ago - what was the reason for selling up again so quickly?

To 'make money'. ( they have and they haven't ) house looks gorgeous and have done well, but made stupid investments for a property of its ceiling price which will not see a return. Its offer proces have been higher so nrp thinks profit. When you look at work in, fees etc etc it will be break even. Its been significantly improved though. If nrp could be convinced to get rid of say, a 20 percent their stuff, would look incredible.

Now nrp cannot decide whether to live near us or move to the continent . ( roll eyes smiley)
