    I watched this:The Armstrong Lie
when it was on tv fairly recently. I guess you may have already seen it Gen? It was really interesting (well, I found it interesting) as he was being filmed for a documentary as all the revelations came out.

Yeah it was on TV over here.

I find it very hard to forgive Armstrong for what he did to cycling and to the people around him. I cheered him home in 2004 and 2005 in Paris when he won his record equalling and then breaking Tours de France. I defended him when all the French fans were screaming drogist at him on the Rue de Rivoli (much better spot than the Champs Elysee for the last day of the TdF - outside WH Smith is brilliant and there's a really nice cafe on the side road for wees and beer) .

He tried to destroy anyone who got in the way of his cheating. The way he got young riders into doping reminds me a lot of how I read about nonces dealing with children (not that there is any equivalence at all: sport and rape are very different things).

A horrible, horrible man. I hope he loses everything. Everything, not just most of it. The glory has gone but I want the money taken, the nice house (he lives in a lovely house), the bikes, the jerseys. All of it.

I think I mentioned here once I saw the house in architectural digest, I knew nothing bout the guy but I remembered the house. I disliked the house. It felt 'wrong'. I know everythink is very primped for shoots but something felt deeply wrong with that place to me, a facade....and not a good one.

I wonder what it said about it last time, I were more tactful?

Edit: pretty sure facade is retrospective thought, I might have thought hotel y. Devoid of personality. Shammy. False. It has the sort of look that wants to say 'friendly and relaxed ' but infact doesn't at all IMO. I can only remember odd bits. The room with the jerseys in. A view of garden ( that actually I liked).

Its not that it was unattractive at all, far from it, its that it felt false.

I had various viewings before we pulled the house from the market (again), but only one offer for around £100k less than the house was on the market for.

The property we want has come off the market again (it's sold twice in the last 3 years), so waiting to see if it comes up again and if so we'll maybe look at trying to sell for a third time.

A friend's in-laws are in a state of enragement. They had their house on the market for 950k, then 900k, then 850k, then 750k as they get more desperate to sell. They then had an offer of 550k. All the other houses on the market in their road are in the range 750k-1m. That offer has just made them explode. I don't know why anyone intent on buying around 550k would look at their road, but I can see why the offer would annoy.

TBH, I don't get the emotion but I suspect that's because I work in asset markets.

Someone bids below the bid price and they don't get the asset. No need to get worked up.

As purch would say, the price is the price.

Are NPs with houses for sale getting viewings/feedback?

I think we had a viewing the week we were in London, since then had one last Friday, and one planned for this Friday. No feedback other than the first viewer (FTB) who said there was too much work needed doing. When we think about it, there's less than it appears - over the years we re-plastered just about all of the walls, but the ceilings all need doing. I'm happy the electrics are safe, but it's about 40 years since we had the house rewired (it really was a mess back then with 3 different kinds of plugs, very few modern, mostly round pin big or round pin small) so it would be sensible to do that. Boiler is over 10 years old I think, but has been regularly maintained though last certificate just ran out beginning of this month. We might try and get it serviced since we'll need to run the heating over winter. Needs most of the double glazed windows replacing though. I'm not optimistic, but we'll see.
I'm getting twitchy about Xmas now .... because I have a house and a tree/lights/baubles and I'm keen to get them out and up.

I'm getting twitchy too. Usually DD1 comes up from London, but the place is currently so messy I don't think she will this year. Unless she goes to stay with DD2. Not only are we filling up with stuff from old home, but OH's Mum is in Nursing Home, and her flat is being sold, so we've got some of her stuff to go through too. There's a lot of Family Papers that will be interesting to go through when we have time, but don't have time enough at the present.

We're not being asked to do anything for nothing/ no money. I don't have a great deal of detail from this evening but it's significantly double figure episodes of TV, which strikes me as bonkers at the moment. I can't really measure that kudos :o

    So, the pluses are
    Publicity
    You get paid for working
    It makes you feel good

    The minuses are
You are already fully committed for this time, so how will you fit the work in?
Will you drive yourselves mad trying to do it all?
You don't have a proper schedule of the work, so you don't know what you are letting yourself in for.

Have I finally understood your dilemma?

The biggest problem may be that they are brilliant film makers but poor at dealing with building projects??

The publicity would be good, but would it generate more work, of the type of work you want? Can you handle more work without compromising or expanding faster than you want/need?

Having known someone who had a room enhanced in one of the "update in an hour" programmes, the feedback was that they compromised on workmanship and materials in order to get the work finished on time and within the programme budget. A concern would be how much control you have in quality (work and materials) and timescales.

Many of these thoughts were crossing my mind, but especially whether you'd want and have the capacity to deal with increased client approaches / projects. I was also wondering whether there was any risk to you from the TV projects failing and it ending up being negative publicity for you instead - perhaps for the reasons mentioned by silvercar in the last para.

I was a bit too young to remember the first moon landing, but I vaguely remember the later missions, but still, too young to realize what it was all about.
There was a good program on the Russian space program on BBC4 2 weeks ago..."Cosmonauts: How Russia Won the Space Race". Highly interesting, amazing archive footage and not dumbed down for a change. :)

That looks like a brilliant programme. Started watching it! Weirdest thing about it is it dealt with a time in history only a few decades after this piece of film.

There's a remarkable scene at 3.20 in it where we see an interesting way of travelling through a city centre.
