Thanks Nintud and Supersaver. I learned some valuable things from the interview, whether the die was loaded against me or not.

The employment that I have just lost proved to be very useful for the "What is the most stressful job you have ever done?" question, and made me realise that I had developed a very useful skill through that experience. I will take all the fairy dust I am sent, thanks, and you are right, "it is not over until the fat lady sings". If it is not the job for me then it has been a stepping stone and at least I am on the move now, and my rut is fading into the distance. :) .

I also did not make enough use of my current training on my CV, because they were keen to explore this, so my CV has been updated.

£25.00 went into the extra income pot yesterday and a couple of DVD's were put on to ebay. A very fit friend of mine loves running but loathes dark mornings and is keen to recruit me as a partner, so after too much Prosecco last night, I responded to a text and agreed to meet her at 8.00 am. It is a very bleak and misty morning out there, I should be snuggled up in bed .........

    Thanks DD,

I went on my run yesterday, which was more like a bobby walk, but DF was being gentle with me, giving me a false sense of security.

She wants me as her new project, and envisages us both running the London marathon together at some point in the dim and distant future ....... so she is coming for me on Wednesday at 6.45 pm and there will be no escaping from her as I live in a cul-de-sac, and her house guards the entrance and exit:eek: .

I got back and collapsed in a heap on the sofa, changed my spider step for yesterday to, "HAVE A CBA DAY", and accomplished that admirably. I spent the day watching mindless TV, nursing a bottle of Prosecco and being fed bacon sandwiches by DS and DH. Twas bliss:rotfl:.

Today I will start my day gold candle gazing in a bubble bath envisaging a smooth, stress free cruise to the end of the month, accomplishing all my objectives. I will then play around with the squares on my Dodo pad, until I have a plan that doesn't drive me to drink :). Onwards and Upwards x.

  • Hey hon

Glad to hear the interview went well. Don't look to negatively on the "internal candidate" aspect as I was once doing a job, temporarily for about 9 months, and they decided to fill it properly. I went for my interview and didn't get it! I was told that although I did a great interview someone did one better. I was then offered my old job back which wasn't anywhere near as good and had to train the new girl up as well as deal with any queries she had when she got into difficulties. It's a good job I liked her or it could have been awful. (I ended up in a much better position later though so all's well and all that!)

Have a great day :) xx

Thanks Sassy, that sounds like a really tricky situation that you had to deal with. I am not so sure I would have handled it as magnanimously as you did.:A. All's well that ends well though!

I have not heard back from the University, but as "luck" would have it, a man phoned about another job that I had got???? It turned out that DS had signed me up for 4 yellow pages rounds (3,000 books). He wasn't going to go hungry at Xmas :rotfl:.

Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, or even a disabled donkey, I quickly recruited DS and DH to help me with two rounds, as a family project, and passed the other two over to another skint mother and son team I know. The above venture should net us £200.00 in early December :).

I filled in the squares in my diary yesterday and it is still not looking too bad. I have lined up £100.00 of MS work this week so I will focus on that. Today I want to add £20.00 to the extra income pot.

I didn't get the Uni job. I got feedback that while I had interviewed well and had met all their criteria they had a candidate who far exceeded their expectations with more relevant H/E experience.

It was what I expected, and the job may have been too much of a challenge for me at this juncture, but I am grateful for the experience. I realise that there is not an unbridgeable gap between where I am now and where I want to be, it will just take longer to accomplish than one great leap.

There were some real positives yesterday. It was parent's evening at DS school. I was really pleased with the comments made about him by the teachers. He seems to be happy, conscientious and on track for passing all his exams comfortably.

His English teacher, who was young and pretty, complimented me on my outfit, and said that she had bought exactly the same clothes from N*xt but in a different colour, and that I looked lovely in them!!

I managed a mystery shop yesterday and I am going to keep racking up the extra income this week, so I have another 3 mystery shops pencilled in for today.

  • Hey hon

Sorry to hear you didn't get the job but it sounds like it was good experience for future interviews/jobs and the feedback is really positive. I think you did really well and hope you feel that way too.

Brilliant news from DS parent's evening. You should both be proud of yourselves, you for moulding him and him for listening!

I'd be absolutely made up if I had that compliment too so I'll bet you had a right spring in your step yesterday.

Hope today is going just as well for you :) xx

Thanks Sassy, I do feel the same way about the interview as you. As for the compliment, it gets funnier. I had made a real effort last night, because I had been feeling so dowdy in recent months, and I did feel fab.

I have just picked DS up from school, and he said to me, "Mum, you know that outfit that you were wearing last night, the boys were talking about you, saying that you stood out from the rest of the mums, and they were watching you, it was really, really embarrassing. I would much prefer it if you wore baggy t-shirts, no make-up and trainers, then nobody would notice you".

Sometimes I just can't win !!!!!:rotfl:

    Thanks Nintud,

My current dilemma is that while I can make up a fair proportion of my missing income through mystery shopping and irregular contracts, it is time consuming, unreliable, and expenses are high.

Realistically, to get back into the field that I want to be in, I need current experience, particularly in this job market. I am thinking about joining a number of temporary agencies in the new year and taking the best job that I can get. My problem here is that I would need to, ideally, give a month's notice on my current part-time job. If I can't get temporary work and I have given up my permanent work then I am truly up sh*ts creek without a paddle!!!

    Any suggestions?

I am working my way through a number of mystery shops for an upmarket clothing chain which are paying quite well, I will do two more today.
