It's always risky parking in car parks when it comes to theft and damage, as well as being expensive.

It is so much safer to park outside someone's house (legally) where you can be sure that a resident will monitor it through their twitchy curtains for you.

Every new build estate i've seen for the last god knows how long has always been rammed with cars.
I thought it was taken as read that developers will cram in too many houses and only allocate enough parking for one Peugeot 107
    As big as that? :rotfl:
  • Really don't get the big deal with having a car parked outside your house. As long as my car is not blocked in (I have a drive) then no problem for me. I used to live in a flat with no allocated parking and did I all the time. Perfectly legal and no problem with it.

I live on a 10 yr old estate and most properties either have a double driveway or a garage and a single driveway. The thing is most people with a garage use it for storage and not their car. There is also no visitor parking on my estate.

This means that there are always lots of cars parked on the estate and sometimes it borders on ridiculous. Opposite my drive there are always cars parked and as the road is quite narrow it does make reversing on my drive a little difficult but I have kind of mastered the art now.

I have been looking at properties on a new estate in a different area and the situation seems to be even worse, most houses there have one space and again no visitor car parking and there are just cars everywhere, over pavements etc.

I think it can be annoying if someone is parked outside your house but unfortunately there is nothing you can do.

My double driveway is on the side of my house rather than at the front, this seems to confuse people into thinking it is public parking and I have on occasions found cars and workmen/meter readers etc parked on my driveway. Never impresses me much!

If you buy or rent a house it does not include that bit of road that runs along side the pavement . I can't always park in my road at all because places are taken by people who live on a near main road with no spaces . What do I do? well I go find a space in the next road and if a resident come home with no space in THAT road ? he will just have to drive round somewhere until he finds one. thats life, how it works . I don't stress, I don't help raise my blood pressure, I don't insults other car drivers . I go home, have a coffee and a cream cake .

People are missing the real threat here. Electric cars.

In the good old days you would at least be woken up by the sound of the engines as some swine sneaks up your road to park outside. It's gotten worse over the years but a finely tuned ear can still get you up and out the house in time to remonstrate with the filthy cur. You might not have time to dress but an Englishman can defend his castle in whatever attire he choses no matter what the county court says!

But electric cars, they're impossible. The first thing you know one has waltzed up and been abandoned in front of your house. Probably stealing your electricity over this wireless charging nonsense! Probably lowering the property prices and attracting giant space war robots! They should be banned i tell thee!

Now, since that's out my system...

It's annoying when you can't park in front of your house and it's worse when you can't even find a space near by, worse still when you get blocked in. On the other hand if they aren't blocking you in and there's no restrictions then it's none of your business.

Finally if you're spending 10 hours a day staring out a window at a white van you have serious issues that merely moving the van will not fix.

What if people leave their windows open? They could plug them in to the electric sockets .....

I get really cross when people use the pavement outside my house to walk on. Mostly commuters walking to the bus stop. It stops me putting my deck chairs and patio table there. :D
