Adrian, firstly you come across a bit 'jumped up', I wonder what the Big C in your name stands for?? However thanks for your 'advice'...

As I highlighted above, I don't own the road.......

Never the best not being able to park outside my OWN house...

For me, it lacks courteous behaviour towards home owners...

Very much agree with this post. ALL of it. Especially the bolded bit. :rotfl:

Except I would say that it affects people who rent too.

Unfortunately, some people ARE so jumped up that they think that they can do what they want, when they want, and to hell with everyone else.

Some people are just so 'jumped up' that they think the country owes them a living.

Luckily I don't live near to rude and inconsiderate individuals anymore. I moved to a much better area, with a better class of person, than the type who think they can do what the hell they want. Just shoving their car in front of someone's house for 50 hours a week and leaving it there because it suits THEM.
    You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:

I don't see the problem with someone parking outside your house tbh. As long as they don't block the drive it's not a massive problem. If it was a house with no parking where people park outside all the time I just wouldn't buy it!

People park outside my Nans house all the time, but she has a drive and it's only a problem when they double park.

We have a similar problem and I blame the planners. We are at the end of a cul-de sac, 4 bedroom town houses and flats next door, 1 yes only ONE parking place per house and flat, NO visitors parking, chaos!!!
When I went to the local planners they explained they turned down the plans but they got passed on appeal!
As I said council planners have a lot to answer for!

It's not the planners fault then is it? It's the government appointed Planning Inspector.

Not sure I agree with residents parking restrictions particularly when there is no suitable alternative for visitors .
No one should have a greater right to park on the road than anyone else.
In fact I don't even agree to on street car parking fees - roads should either need to be be kept clear ( restrictions based on yellow lines) or free parking to all.

i live in a row of old terraced houses. I love it, but i did have awful problems with people blocking my driveway for a while! Grrrr.

Then one day, new neighbours moved in next door. They wanted to get rid of the beautiful cherry blossom tree on the verge between both our houses because it was lifting the dip on their driveway. (no problems my side...wink!) I wasn't happy, but there ya go.

The real problem was that cars were cheekily being parked at the bit of verge mentioned, which partially blocked me and neighbour. if you can visualise that.

Anyway, the end result was, that when the Council removed the tree, they didnt bother replacing it, but instead concreted over the verge where the tree was. Now we have a double dipped drive, and the temptation for people to park there has gone!

I love it even more now, and I have forgiven my neighbour a hundred times. there are ten other cherry blossoms on the road, and you woulnt miss ours.

Parking outside your house on the road is fine, if it is not blocking you in or out. Otherwise it is a nightmare, and can lead to all sorts of stress, real or imagined.

And would you be OK with someone else's car stuck outside your living room window, for potentially 10 hours a day? Just sitting there, because some cheeky monkey thinks it's OK to use the road directly outside someone's house day in, day out, while they galavant off to the train station, to go to work and stay there all day?

I think it's a bloomin' cheek personally. And frankly, if you say you would be happy with someone doing it to you, I won't believe you. Not a soul on the planet, would be happy with someone doing that. And you can bet that the people doing it to others would be the most peed off it someone did it to them!

Plenty of others have to pay parking fees if they want to use the car parks, while they commute. Don't see why some people think they should be exempt.

If someone did this to me, outside 'my' house, I think I might 'accidently' bump into their car. ;)

You don't own the road, frankly I have a problem with new estates, but I don't own the countryside either. I live In a very old house next door to an old people's home so visitors park all the time. It inconveniences me but hey Ho, I don't own the road.

Why do you think you have a say on a road which I pay tax for? It's not your road! You will be saying swans are your property next!

Blocking is a different issue. I agree with you x

  • There's a white van that regularly parks outside our house, which it a lovely view from my living room window. They guy who owns it lives about 6 door down from us (he has a drive, usually with another van in it!). When there are cars the other side it can make it a tight squeeze to get past. The other day an ambulance couldn't get through! (Had to go out and speak to them as they thought it was my van - knocked on a neighbours door to move their car so the ambulance could get past)
Not sure there's anything that can be done about it though...... It's more annoying that the road is wider just around the bend with plenty of space for vans....

Absolutely. Why on earth do people think they own a part of a road?

You have absolutely no right over the road than anyone else. Are you asking people not to be rude, so that you can be rude? What right do you have to ownership of the road? Did you buy it?
