Anyone else live on a new(ish) estate and...

It's a public road. EVERYBODY with a road legal car has the same right to park there. I have the same right as you do.
If you really find that so frustrating, have you considered moving to the middle of nowhere, half a mile from the nearest neighbour?
If its a newish estate it probably isnt a public road...0 -

Our neighbours have a double garage, a double drive, two visitor spaces opposite their own home, but insist on parking one car out of their two - daily - in the visitor space opposite our house ....0 -
I live on a new estate, and it does seem every household has at least 2 cars and most of the houses only have 1 allocated parking space/garage. I only have one space myself as I was too late buying to snap up one of the few houses with 2 spaces, but then again, I only have 1 car in my household, I was just thinking of future possibilities.
Luckily the streets on our estate are quite wide and there are quite a lot of allocated parking bays, so it isn't so much an issue, still doesn't look too charming though, having all those cars parked out on the street. The pavements are also very wide, so the houses are set back relatively far from the street, which helps a bit.0 -
Blame Prescott and Labour, they brought in the rules that forced developers to reduce car parking provision on new estates in the hope of obliging residents to use public transport.0

Redford, who is it who is parking in your estate? Is it visitors to people who live there or people just parking as it's convenient for other facilities (transport, shops, etc.)? If it's the former there's not a lot you can do other than lobby for restrictions to be put in place, which may be a double edged sword. And if it's the latter, then why not use it as an opportunity to speak to your neighbours and try to agree between you how such parking should be handled?
Or just do what Adrian said and move somewhere where parking isn't an issue.0 -
It's not just new estates.
Living in a city, 1 mile from the centre, we watched as parking restrictions moved commuters further and further from their places of work, towards our cul de sac. They must have become much fitter over the years!
We moved before it became a serious problem, but it is now, and residents' permits can't be far off. They reached people living in the centre and near the hospital first, then spread like a virus.
We've now in a place where parking issues will never arise. Indeed, there are no traffic jams either, or queues at the supermarket checkouts. With this goes the need to drive many miles to the supermarket. I pay that price willingly.
Big town and city living is 'convenient,' but that comes at a price too.;)0 -
Hi Redford. I am with you here. It's soooooo annoying when people park outside your house, and even worse, directly opposite, so it makes it difficult to swing out, and even WORSE, when said people do not live anywhere near where they're parked!!! We have had this a number of times in the past, and it seriously grates.
Unfortunately, they are (most of the time) not doing anything wrong.
I think you just need to live with it, or move.
Sorry. No offence or sarcasm intended.Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!
You're not singing anymore........ You're not singing any-more!0 -
Ours isn't a new estate but I have this problem from the other side. There's no parking outside our flat because there is no road directly outside. We have to park on surrounding roads, and it's not much fun for us either!
We have to carry our shopping from the car and I have to fight for a space every night after work. We have a neighbour who resents us parking on the road and she has intentionally blocked me in and then refused to move her car, when I've actually not done anything wrong. I asked her where she suggests I should park my car and she didn't have an answer because we don't have any parking! She got her own way in the end, I don't park on that street any more after my car got keyed.
I appreciate that it's really annoying, but think about the people who are parking there too. We're hopefully buying a house with a big drive and I can't wait!!0 -
and have a row of cars outside you're front door, none belonging to you?
I know I DONT OWN THE ROAD however this does not take away the frustration of cars outside my house, none of which I own.
What makes it worse it often people who don't live on the estate...
Rant over, anyone else faced with this on a daily basis??
Try valium......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
