I commute to work every day and park on the street outside someone else's house. Why on earth would I spend £3 a day to use a car park when there's a perfectly good, free and legal parking space to use?

And would you be OK with someone else's car stuck outside your living room window, for potentially 10 hours a day? Just sitting there, because some cheeky monkey thinks it's OK to use the road directly outside someone's house day in, day out, while they galavant off to the train station, to go to work and stay there all day?

I think it's a bloomin' cheek personally. And frankly, if you say you would be happy with someone doing it to you, I won't believe you. Not a soul on the planet, would be happy with someone doing that. And you can bet that the people doing it to others would be the most peed off it someone did it to them!

Plenty of others have to pay parking fees if they want to use the car parks, while they commute. Don't see why some people think they should be exempt.

If someone did this to me, outside 'my' house, I think I might 'accidently' bump into their car. ;)

Y'see, that's the thing. It IS OK. It's as OK as you or anybody else parking on that bit of road. If you don't like looking at cars parked on a bit of road, grow your front hedge up.

Personally, I find deliberate criminal damage FAR less OK.

Just to point out I don't think it was her that keyed my car, she was frustrated with the parking but I don't think she was a nasty person. I hope the person that did key it gets theirs keyed one day though. It cost me £450!

Peter333 would you pay the £3 per day then rather than park for free? £3 per day 5 days a week is a lot of money!

    What an utterly ridiculous suggestion!

Why the hell should I grow trees/bushes 5 foot high, or higher, so I don't have to tolerate seeing people leaving their car outside my window 50 hours a week, while they go to work.

And it's not just that, it's the inconvenience of it being there, often making it hard for people to get in and out of their drives. But some people are so selfish and thoughtless, that they don't give a rats what effect they're having on people. As long as THEY are OK.

And I never said they were doing anything wrong. I said I would not want to put up with it. And I bet YOU would not either!

Your comments sound like something one of those 'nuisance neighbours' who doesn't give a damn about his neighbours would say.

And yes frankly, I WOULD pay for the car park before I would have the nerve to park outside someone's drive 50 hours a week while I went to work.

Like I said, you and other people 'supporting' it would not be happy if it was YOUR house they were parked outside all day, all week.

As it happens, I almost constantly have other people's cars parked outside my house - to the point that I frequently have to park one or two streets away because there aren't any nearer spaces. Yes, it 's annoying when I' ve done a big shop and have to schlep my purchases 100 yards by hand, but other than that it really doesn't bother me, and if it did I would have bought a house with allocated parking.

I would try keying one or two of them.

Totally agree with this post. After putting up with people parking all over the shop in my last house; (some even parking outside my front window when they lived 7 doors away!) And often blocking me in by parking opposite, (AND to the left and right of me,) I moved to an area with a smaller and lower amount of houses, so it rarely happens now.

Luckily, I live in an area where people are decent, considerate people, and aren't so rude and inconsiderate as to leave their car parked in our private road every day. It does happen a lot if you live near train stations or airports. If it were me, I would move. I did, and I couldn't put up with it again.

I have to agree that I don't think anyone would like anyone doing it. It's just plain annoying, as well as inconvenient, and rude, and inconsiderate. I understand the OP's frustation.

In my last road (where this happened a lot,) someone did vandalise someone's car (someone who always parked in our road and didn't even live there; ) it has its tyres slashed and headlights smashed. A note on it said 'park in your own area!'

Maybe not nice, but they never parked there again. Result.

Because you're the one with the problem over other people parking perfectly legally. That's why.
And it's not just that, it's the inconvenience of it being there, often making it hard for people to get in and out of their drives.

If somebody's parking is causing an obstruction, then it's illegal. Whether they live nearby or not. Don't conflate the two totally separate issues.

Perhaps you missed the post where I said that I used to live just up the road from a tube station. Parking was solid until resident permits were introduced - and three guesses what happened to the cost for them... Be careful what you wish for, you might get it. As I said, our neighbours were massively bothered by it. I wasn't. In fact, their antics amused the hell out of me.

We have a similar problem and I blame the planners. We are at the end of a cul-de sac, 4 bedroom town houses and flats next door, 1 yes only ONE parking place per house and flat, NO visitors parking, chaos!!!
When I went to the local planners they explained they turned down the plans but they got passed on appeal!
As I said council planners have a lot to answer for!
