Of course, my cat gets to sleep with me on the bed, or when he decides to, that is. Let's say, it's not always that straightforward for him if I choose to go away for the night (or holiday) that it would take an age for him to come back to bed with me as he can play 'grump grumps' with me for begrudging my lack of presence for a period of time. In summer, when the weather's hot, he'll choose various spots around the house, and v. rarely would he venture onto the bed, much to my utter dismay (I get v. heartbroken!)

In bed, he's not always that close to me, although in winter (yay, to cooler nights now!), then he'll be nudged against my side. Sometimes when I don't have enough attention from him, I would inch my way closer to him, wrapping my arms around his perfectly soft furrie body for that extra closeness, but then I say to myself I can't stay in this awkward diagonal position/legs hanging off the sides of the bed all night, and get back to my usual position... It's just not practical to heed to what the heart wants... I'm talking like a clich!d cat-lady now, aren't I?:o

I seem to remember an article about cats sleeping with humans and it was actually said that it really wasn't good for the cats health, breathing in stuff as well as dust mites etc. etc.

Personally I think its disgusting to let any animal be in that close a proximity for 8 or so hours.

    They are animals, not people.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Thing is McKneff, both the cats and the owners get a lot of comfort by 'co-sleeping'. its worth the risk to health for the benefits.

8 hours? i should be so lucky. my cat gets up about 5am and has a massive wash - "slurp" "slurp" - that goes on for ages! i dont need an alarm clock either, she always knows when it is time to get up!

But we're animals too, and you're much much more likely to catch something from another human than from another species. Most feline-human zoonoses are rare and unlikely to be serious in a healthy adult.

You're right, they're not people...my cat is usually a lot cleaner and better smelling than my boyfriend! :rotfl:

We had a storm here earlier today and the thunder made the cat totally freak out. He hasn't left my side since I got home from work and is currently sitting with his head tucked under my armpit. It's sweet really but not a very comfortable sleeping position.

Perhaps you could rearrange him so he doesn't wake up with a crick in his neck.

Cats are barred from the beds in my house now. I had a terrible eye condition, with abcesses inside my eyelids. One of my cats was treated for gingivitis and I found out the bacteria in his mouth was probably responsible. He was washing himself and coating his fur (and my bedding) in lots of nasty germ-laden saliva!
