My Eric has several sleeping places around the house - designated by himself, nothing to do with me. Wherever he sleeps at night he likes me to get up by 5am and if I ignore him he will bury his claws into my scalp or clamp his teeth around my big toe. Either of these are guaranteed to get me awake, out of bed and down stairs into the kitchen in under 2 nano-seconds. The pain is excruciating yet he looks so beautiful.

Our cat sleeps on our bed. He usually stretches out in the middle while OH and I cling to the edges... it's clear that the cat is in charge in our house :)

He also likes sleeping on my pillow (the cat, not the OH) and will nudge me doen the bed until he has enough space.

Wouldn't have it any other way, I love seeing him there :)

We have a cheap fleece blanket on top of the bed to catch the worst of the hairs. It gets washed every couple of days and does stop a lot of the bed fluff we used to get.

I always let my two cats sleep on the bed with me at night as I find it comforting, but then its in the morning when they want their food they keep pawing at me to get up and this morning one of them was sat on my face and I dreamt I was suffocating. Oh and not to mention all the cat hairs on the duvet cover.

But I do love having them with me at night and wouldn't like to keep them out of the bedroom now they are used to it.

    Any views on this?

I would say that it's too late to go back now.

Cat hairs you get everywhere anyway.

I love when my cat sleeps on the bed.

Thanks for all your replies. I do love my cats sleeping with me and I know it would be hard to stop them doing it. I find it very difficult to get rid of the hairs they shed on the duvet, the hoover hose just sucks up the quilt, I've got one of those sticky roller things that you rinse and ue again but it only does so much of the quilt before it gets full and needs rinsing and drying out. I have got a fleece blanket over the bed but they still manage to get hairs on my duvet cover, how do you deal with this?
Have you heard of The Furminator? It's basically a fancy comb but the results are amazing. Since getting one my cat sheds a lot less and my house is slightly less fur covered than before!

I'm amazed by the number of people that are perfectly happy to share their bed with a cat but horrified at the thought of sharing one with a baby or child.

When we first got our cat and he was just a tiny ball of fluff I was terrified of letting him sleep in the bed in case me or my OH rolled over and crushed him. It didn't take long to realise that the little ball of fluff had razor sharp claws and would use them to bring it to our attention if we came close to squashing him! :D

Do you brush the cats to get any excess off..?....i do it in the bath, so the hairs are just washed down the plug hole after.

Also cellotape wrapped around your hand and sweep over cover will get them off (I do this with clothes when needed).

Also you can rub a damp cloth over hairy area to get the hairs into a few clumps then hoover or cellotape them up.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

It depends on how tired we are. Usually one of them is out all night and sleeps where he likes, usually splits his time between our room and our DD. The other two sometimes get locked up if they are in a mischievous mood as they like to play pompom ball under the bedside table (on my side) until daft o'clock. They are good though and follow me obediently to the front room and await their treats before I go back to bed and they then play tear-a$$ing round the front room like a heard of elephants.

I must be an unusual cat owner, ours get shut downstairs at night and always have. I just can't cope with being woken up at night by one of my boys nibbling my fingers or scratching my feet! :D

I'm with you on this one. Our previous cats always slept in the kitchen at night with the doors shut and a choice of beds available.

Any squeaking, padding with claws or trying to wake me up at 4am and the culprit gets tossed off the bed onto the floor. They're not daft, they've learned to sleep quietly. Wish I could train OH not to snore as easily.

    Have you tried similar measures?
