Thanks for all your replies. I do love my cats sleeping with me and I know it would be hard to stop them doing it. I find it very difficult to get rid of the hairs they shed on the duvet, the hoover hose just sucks up the quilt, I've got one of those sticky roller things that you rinse and ue again but it only does so much of the quilt before it gets full and needs rinsing and drying out. I have got a fleece blanket over the bed but they still manage to get hairs on my duvet cover, how do you deal with this?

I must be an unusual cat owner, ours get shut downstairs at night and always have. I just can't cope with being woken up at night by one of my boys nibbling my fingers or scratching my feet! :D

Buy a duvet cover the same colour as the cat. Then you won't notice the hairs.

Three of mine do, the other one prefers to sleep on my desk chair. The three bed cats all have their own spots, one between OH and I, one curls up between me and the edge of the bed and the third one curls up round my OH's head. OH quite appreciates this in winter, he's lost most of his own hair so the cat keeps his head warm.

Any squeaking, padding with claws or trying to wake me up at 4am and the culprit gets tossed off the bed onto the floor. They're not daft, they've learned to sleep quietly. Wish I could train OH not to snore as easily.

Boy cat sleeps with me, girl cat never does.

Cats sleep with us as they choose to. Oliver (big black tom) likes on top of the wardrobe - is v v v creepy to see his huge green eyes staring at you when the bedroom is all dark!

Our newest addition sleeps on the bed - and has caused us to re-think our pets (2 dogs included) on the bed. Kitten was a stray hubby brought home a couple weeks ago. He's teeny - just 8 weeks old now. But he does like to play with everything - ears, fingers, toes, anything that might be described as dangly (poor hubby!!!!!)

Ah, don't use the hose end! I use the wide brush attachment, making several sweeps from one side to the other, up a bit and repeat. May not be perfect but it helps!

Depends on the colour of the cat, mine's a Calico!!

The cat's not trusted elsewhere - scratching furniture - If she wants to be out, it's via the bedroom window!

I've tried that with the brush but its such a good suction it still sucks the quilt up.

My cats are black and white, white hairs show up on dark covers and black hairs show up on light.
