dave... I bet you are sick of all the cafuffle over that conservatory.. friend had a lovely one built by a builder [not a cons. co.] the shape/height/style she wanted and he just built it in situ.
There is a process that must be followed, so it's a matter of asking the company to rectify things again, as they haven't even addressed some concerns yet.

Then, when that doesn't work..... which it won't.....we go to the Glass & Glazing Federation, who offer various approaches to resolving stuff like this.

I just keep repeating, "At least we haven't paid them!" :p

    Good decision, Fay.

Hope you are feeling a [STRIKE]little[/STRIKE] lot better by now, Fay. :)

Last night, DW thought she was going down with the bug our DD and family had whilst here. This morning my throat feels 'funny' as well, but I shall 'mind-over-matter' it, if I can.....

Much else of more importance to worry about, I'm afraid. :( Worst is the possible long-term prognosis for DW's mobility issues, which I've known about for a while. The worst case scenario calls into question assumptions we've made over our long term plans, but of course we all make those and they're ever subject to change......

Thank God we do have flexibility with this place, which not all property of the type would have. :undecided

The other more pressing thing is that I think we have the conservatory company over the proverbial barrel now, thanks to a lot of research I've done, much of it mis-directed. While I was fretting over the 'design limitations,' (using that term loosely!) a bigger fish was swimming past me.....

I won't go into detail, but the boogers have flouted the installation instuctions of the manufacturers in the biggest way they could. I have it all in black and white and there's no wriggle room. I don't know where this will go next, but there will have to be demolition before we can go forward, and not just on the conservatory itself.....

You can probably tell that I'm seething, but seething doesn't always get the best result, so I'm counting to ten.........thousand.... and looking at our options before revealing anything.

Just feel a bit sick TBH. :(

Intriguing, Dave, about the conservatory, but more worrying for the Mrs. Best wishes to her. I'm not exactly in the best shape, having enough neurological toxin and disease exposure from my research years to cause symptom-overload when I see an NHS doc - which I try to do as rarely as possible, as they are bad for my (normally low) blood pressure.

I did actually get a phoned-through referral from a neuro consult I had back in December, and the caller was quite pleased at the speed of the system... until I pointed out that that particular consultant had actually seen me in December 2015! :D Luckily, I'm not too incapacitated yet, and I do find keeping moving and doing is the best help (for me). I do know that, at some unknown point in the future, there's likely to be a pretty nasty downturn but, with luck, I'll get hit by a bus (or wife) before then.

Foggy, icy, cold and grey here, It was spectacular a couple of days back, just as cold, but bright sun and blue sky. Makes a difference to bothering levels, which are low to can't be ar5ed at the moment. need to clear out a barn, as huge hay and straw delivery coming tomorrow.

Cute pooch, alfie, and I'm sure he's always as clean and polished as that! ;) Did you send him through a dishwasher before blow-drying? Hope, Fay, your cold has passed.

Not sure what to do with the day. Grey skies make the fireplace, sofa and a bottle look attractive, but I'm aware of jobs out there that are pressing, and I might even have to do some real work to catch up before next week.

Mmmm sofa.... maybe just for a short snooze with a warm cat...

Hi all. Just the one day in work this week and been and got that done. Last holiday guests seem to have a !!!!!!ed the window in the holiday cottage. Not the one we are replacing when we're up in January. Sigh!

Not doing much for NY. Will be lucky if I stay awake to hear the bongs! Been to 2 different beaches this week as the weather has been great.

Helped a friend with her milking on Christmas Day morning. Complete surprise as she didn't know me and the DDs were going to appear.

Dave sounds like you're having a nightmare with the conservatory but I hope the barrel proves a very useful tool to have found. Sorry to hear you're both feeling rough too.
I feel a bit better today but the GP gave me antibiotics for a sinus infection which make me very nauseous and I was actually sick the first day in them. Plus a bit of blurred vision so the side effects are rather unpleasant. I have also developed two large coldsores, but suffer badly with those anyway, so they're like long lost friends returning. Sadly they're never list for long enough. So all in all this Christmas has been grim for illness but I'm not back at work now until the 4th so hopefully that's time to recover.
I can't stand NYE so fir the last few years we gave been the cinema early evening then home for food and wine. So tomorrow is the same, minus wine for me as I'm not allowed with the tablets. They just keep giving!
Happy new year to all the day dreamers!

Good to know you'll now have some time to recover, Fay. Hope it's enough.:)

My mind-over-dodgy-throat seems to have worked, but I couldn't stay in all day yesterday, so I did more hedge prep, just using long loppers from the field and not climbing-in.

The idea is that I do all the smaller bushes first, bring in the chain saw, chop off the larger trees and then remove everything small to a couple of bonfires. The tree trunks can be processed as and when I take them away with the van. After that, it's simply how to hide the new planting so that Mr Dog doesn't see it, because he pulled stuff out a couple of years ago. Maybe I'll keep back some small prickly bits! :p

Lucielle, you'll always get that sort of thing when you rent out. Just have to write it off against tax and hope it happens infrequently.

Thanks for your best wishes re DW Dafty. She has had fairly severe spinal problems since she was 27, but good sports physios, now far away and too expensive anyway, got her over that and into a regime where she's been able to manage them. She's working with another now, but this different problem is proving hard to pin down; we only know it started when we were roofing....

And that roofing could have been the time when we modified the eaves of the house to take the conservatory, because that's what should have happened. Instead, the bodgers have just screwed it to the fascia, and not even in the correct way so far as I can see.

So, they don't know it yet, but the whole lot will need to come down and all our nice underfelting etc will have to be distrurbed to do what would have taken a day or so last summer and cost peanuts.

But I'm seriously wondering if I should let them do any more at all....:(

    hi all

the fog has lifted here and I can see out of my window after 3 days of white out !

sorry to hear some of you have got the dreaded "bug".. mum had it before xmas, I got it mildly and son now has symptoms ...
all I can recommend is ...don't believe it has totally gone and "overdo" things or it comes back with a vengeance !

dave.. I had a back injury ive managed for years .. [spent 1 month in hosp, wheelchair, walk agin etc ] similar with management its stayed at a level until 4-5yrs ago . I had a mri scan and they discovered a syrinx . apparently its not often picked up but explained a lot.. not sure if it tallies with DW possible symptoms but may be worth a oogle ?

bit of a boogar re the conservatory !! think law of claims say you have to offer company chance to "put right" BUT if it is against building regs you could ask for total refund plus any corrections costs then start again with another company.. perhaps pay to get a surveyors advice now [lots of pics] incase ,god forbid, it ends up in court. its up to wether you trust this company to be competent to correct wha they should have done/known in the first place....
if your health is not 100% you could both do without all this stress !
    good luck.

I wish you all a healthy, happy, humerous, new year xxx
[I didn't put wealthy... as between us all, not likely to happen big style ;-) ]

DW is going to re-investigate the spinal side of things next, alfie.

I know I have to let the company put things right, so I will, but of course that means I have to get them to admit wrong in the first place! :undecided

I've emailed the manufacturer for definitive answers, which ought to help. I was up on the roof today and what's really worrying is that I cant see how the darned thing is leaking so much. I hate it when there's a problem that can't be identified.....

Removed the new wood burner today, so we could paint around/behind it, so that will be up and running soon. We've had no heat source in our 22' living room so far this winter, and we've hardly noticed. What a difference from the last 2 years with holes in the walls and ceilings and no insulation! :D

I was hoping to bring some good news to end the year, but although Horse Woman is due home any time, she'd not arrived by nightfall. There will be carers 4 times a day for her from now on....if she doesn't do a Lord Sugar and tell them, "You're fired!" after a few days.:rotfl:

And finally, I'm pleased to say our friend and builder did manage to sort out the legal aggro over his building plot in Oz, so he was able to conclude the purchase after all.:j I'm really pleased for him, but worried that he may up sticks now before finishing all the stuff we still have lined-up here. He has a very elderly dog, so he's just waiting for the inevitable, but then he was doing the same this time last year!

Well, we've already had a few texts from people somewhat under the weather (or maybe under the influence too ) who don't think they'll make it through till midnight.... I don't think that's ever happened before. DW will be sleeping off the bug by then, so I'll probably take a stroll and take in the fireworks, church bells etc....all two minutes of them, I expect! :D

Happy New Year all, "Lang may your lum reek!" as my old Mum [STRIKE]would say.[/STRIKE] used to say.
