Alf, this was definitely the best album I've seen in years, so glad you like it. Gus worked for Taff Vale Railway pre WWI (they wouldn't give him a reference for the army as they wanted to keep him in early 1915) and GWR post WWI, he was still swimming for the GWR team in 1938! We've had a postcard fest in last 24 hrs, cards selling as quick as we can list them and some private sales as well.

I do hope Mrs Rhiwfield does get some relief It sounds so painful for her & draining for you too

Hope you all get rid of your nasty cough colds RAS & Alfie & anyone else under the weather.

I feel a bit jiggered today & haven't achieved much at all, but a lot of stuff to be posted tommorow so that's good.

    Really gorgeous day today.

Gosh it has been grey, wet and miserable here since 5th of November. Feel like I need to build an ark.

Been busy stocktaking, hopefully should be near to getting finished by the end of the day.

DD1 has got her driving test today. Fingers crossed and any positive vibes appreciated. It has been ruddy expensive.

DD1 has also got a uni interview at the beginning of December, which means I'll get to see my mum before Christmas. Have had to juggle my leave so I can get her there.

DS2 has sold 7 turkeys so far, just got 3 to go.

DD2 joined young farmers this week, Gawd help them, she'll keep them on their toes.

DS1 is still in NZ, he's been invited back to the first farm he stayed on for Christmas. Feel better that he has got somewhere to go and not sat alone with a sprout!

Going up to Edinburgh next week for 2 days to do the Christmas markets. Never been before so looking forward to that.

Hope the poorlies feel better soon.

Morning everyone. Hope those who have the lurgy are starting to feel better now, or at the very least are keeping snuggly and warm.

Welcome Poppy, that house looks fab in the photo you posted, the combination of the sun, plants and tiles works so well.

Good find in your loft Dave. All Mr BD found in our loft was a dead pigeon. :(

    We've got another leak
Where the plumber went into the plastic soil pipe for the waste for the sink in the utility. Soil pipe is not really where you want a leak washing over the path by the back door. Not a happy bunny. Yesterday we had our window chap back to put in some interior doors for us and he kindly put some sealant on the leak to try and control it till the plumber comes back. As a matter of interest, how should a joint like that be sealed?

  • morning all,

just a quicky,in the house having a quick cuppa before going to work.

Alfie look after yourself, the lurgy is not nice.

LIR... I think its a wise move, it will also up lift you too,

Hubby has gone to Hereford livestock auction today.. with our black and white boar. even though he is a sweetheart, he is starting to get a bit disruptive now... and in reality. we only need one boar...

how eldest and hubby gut him onto the trailer I never know lol.. as he was supposed to have been the first one in that lot to go to auction/slaughter..

its also good to see what the prices and pigs are like in this auction...

him and his mate left at 6.30am and got there early, auction don't start until 10.30am, but as they have never been there before, it was best to get there early so they and the pig arnt stressed by it all lol..

right off to look on the website for the livestock entries at the auction and then off to work..

lucielle Best of luck with DD driving test those lessons are so dear!
I'm pottering about today . Trying to do a small pre christmas clean out . But im still in my pjs and its coming up to Ten..lazy me! Last night we had some kick in the teeth news. We have been waiting 2 months to hear if our bank will let us up our mortage so that we can lower the term to 6 years and not 8..after all that they said no..and it wasn't as if we can not afford it , as it wasn't a huge jump..2 months of hoping and waiting for them to say no..We have a large amount of equity in the house as we bought it derelict many years ago. We are rather peed off tbh. So we have decided to change tactics and make over payments instead at the same rate we would have paid on a lower term. They turned us down for a remortage of 15k as we needed to make our house bigger 2 bedrooms to 3 . But we saved up the money instead ourselves in 2 years (by not going out or doing anything) guess they did us a favour otherwise we would have had a longer mortage! We are definatly at the had enough on thinking any financial institution would ever help us , so want to ditch them as much as we can and get mortage free asap.
Anyway sorry for the rant..have a great day all !

BD... most joints of that ilk have a self sealing joint... a sort of rubber funnel type washer. as the joining pipe goes into it it vacuums round pipe [bit like putting rubber gloves on ?] has to be a tight fit obviously. sometimes if its a] a man made joint, b] wrong seal c] incorrect pipe size / angle of joint then this can blow the joint when under pressure or temperature change .

Yes it was, and yes I'm interested. Thanks! :T

I'd seen jaggerooh's thread, but not that one, which also seems positive. It's so hard to get unbiased info.

Put it another way, we've had quotes for pellet boilers around the £17-18k mark, but that's just the boiler and tank. On top of that, we have to replace all the rads and pipes. That would still leave us with no panels on't roof and with a new woodburner to fund as well.

Ain't going to happen.:( OK £2k pa pay back if we stay here 7 years, but if something unforeseen happens, and we don't, someone else gets it! Also, I have doubts about pellet quality and storage in a rather damp area of the country.

Going oil again isn't very attractive either. We could do that for about £14k, then add panels and a woodburner....say £22k all-in. Still not great. :(

If we did go for the Quantums, we'd not need any new rads etc, and the entire house is being rewired anyway.....So, it's beginning to seem like the best option, allowing us panels on the roof and a new woodburner too.

Just like to say my air source wasn't that much iirc as your pellet quotes ( though we have been able to reuse mainly fairly old rads for the time being...will update heating as we go through ) and presumably you wouldn't need two of the blighters like we did....only one?
