I'm increasingly 'condemned' to the hills of bath, which are harder for me, where its impossible to do it in a day if you are me. And where whilst its stunning, everyone knows it. The jostle is often just ott when you want just to pop in for some basics...

Yes, I came to that conclusion when getting home from Sainsburys could take 1/2 an hour.....and I lived less than 1/2 mile away, as the dratted seagulls flew....about 20 seconds for them! :(

Also tired of being pushed off the pavements by hordes of European tourists, and always standing 6 deep or more at the tills....

I could go on. Shopping for the basics is a joy now. OK still 20-30 minutes in the car, but its moving, and through great scenery. :D

Yay! :j As alfie says, it must be so good to know that you'll soon be putting back, rather than removing things from the house.
Somewhat ironically, we destroyed one of our shower rooms today.....:o It still has a working loo, but the shower and basin were on a wall that's being demolished soon. :(

I hate breaking things that still function, but there's nothing worth reclaiming, except the loo, which will be fitted in the barn and plumbed into the caravan's system. :)

DW has also been stripping the other rooms of their architraves, skirtings etc, as this is prep we can do, rather than pay the builder. We're slower & gentler with deconstruction, which means more material survives for re-use.

In other words, we're tight-wads! :rotfl:

Was telling Alf about an old manor house we stayed at on Saturday night.

Run by a couple in their late 70s, she does all the cooking (superbly) and he does the waiting at table in the baronial hall. They are having to slow down, he has Alzheimers while she has bone cancer.

All takings go to the upkeep of the house which is fabulous if you like old (think parts back to 13th century) and much of it unrestored.

She wasnt too well Saturday night as her back was protesting, she'd been tape lining frayed towel edges ("I'm not mean, just thrifty") on her 1880s treadle sewing machine!

We had the run of the basement floor, the arched solid stone passageway to the bathroom was about 5' high and 6' long.

We love history, but glad we brought jumpers.

    I've been Money Tipped!
We've been taking care of an acquaintance's pot plants almost since we got here. I've just sorted out the camilias where I want them for this season ant they want ONE of them back. I mean, of course its theirs, but I feel a bit like....yes.....but take the rest too, or something ugly or to your taste out of you stuff....not one of your things I actually like.

Truthfully having their pots has been a bit of an excuse to delay thinking about the back while we haven't been ready to.

    First Japanese quince is flowering.

It only stopped flowering in about may possibly even early June I think. I do remember it just went on and on and on.....its my favourite one of them all, so I hope it doesn't exhaust its self. ( haven't even weeded there yet)

We seem to be back to confusing seasons again. I've been wandering about in shirtsleeves all day..... again!

Hasn't been very nice, though....Plenty of drizzle, but we still managed two full van loads of stuff down to the barn. So, that's the lofts empty, the shower room dismantled and most of the doors, architraves and some skirtings removed from the west end of the bungalow. We're ready for Phase 2. :D

.....But our builder has to finish Phase 1 first.:o Weather doesn't look too bad for that. He returns tomorrow. :)

There's an old, thatched B&B close to us. DW's parents stayed there in winter.....once! :rotfl:
